Full Job Description
Semex is seeking an experienced and passionate Animal Care Manager to join our team at the Kemptville site. This leadership role is critical to ensuring the highest standards of animal care, operational excellence, and semen collection quality. You will lead a dedicated housing team and oversee all aspects of barn operations, with a strong focus on animal health, welfare, and productivity.

What You Will Do:
  • Supervise and mentor a team of 15-20 employees, providing clear direction, coaching, and support to foster engagement and performance.
  • Oversee feeding, bedding, hoof trimming, and overall wellness to maintain optimal health and comfort for all animals.
  • Collaborate closely with our corporate veterinarian to monitor bull health and enforce rigorous biosecurity protocols.
  • Coordinate semen collection activities to ensure efficiency and adherence to quality standards.
  • Ensureall equipment and facilities are properly maintained, safe, and compliant with health and safety regulations.
  • Conduct probationary and performance reviews, manage scheduling, approve timecards, and support employee development.
  • Partner with teams such as Research & Innovation, Marketing, and Talent Management to align shared goals and deliver results.

What You Need to Succeed:
  • 3-5 years of proven success in herd or barn management, preferably in a large-scale agricultural or livestock operation.
  • The successful candidate will demonstrate strong people-management capabilities, with proven experience leading teams, setting clear expectations, and applying fair and consistent leadership practices.
  • Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills to engage employees and stakeholders.
  • Proven experience in change management.
  • Comfortable using tools such as AX,Microsoft O365, and ADP for scheduling, reporting, and operational management.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement in animal care and operational processes.
  • Valid G-class license.

Work Location & Minimum Pay Rate

This is an in-person role requiring 5 days per week in our Kemptville location. This role is full time and offers a starting wage of $83,500 with potential compensation enhancements based on applicable experience and qualifications.
