Full Job Description
The Analytics Business Manager (ABM) role is part of Optum's Analytics Center of Excellence (ACOE). The ACOE provides high-quality deliverables and data-driven decision making through a highly scalable and innovative operating model that enables resource specialization and expands our partners' access to analytics talent, best practices, standard processes and technology. This model helps advance the strategic objectives of our partners which are both external health systems and internal operations.

The ABM serves as a strategic and operational partner to ACOE leaders and Analytics Client Delivery Leads (CDLs). The role translates partner and organizational priorities into coordinated action, reliable governance, and measurable outcomes by providing the structure, information, and follow-through leaders need to make decisions and deliver results.

The ABM partners with CDLs, ACOE leaders, delivery teams, and other stakeholders to create clarity, alignment, and accountability across complex initiatives. The role is accountable for ensuring leaders have decision-ready information, governance and operating practices support consistent execution, business performance is visible, and organizational priorities translate into measurable outcomes and sustained value.

The ABM uses business judgment, influence, operational leadership, and executive communication to navigate ambiguity and independently advance work from planning through implementation and adoption. Based on organizational needs, the ABM may support a combination of health system partnership and ACOE-wide leaders and operations. These assignments require solid relationships, enterprise knowledge, and disciplined execution.

You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges.

    • Build knowledge of partner and ACOE priorities, operations, contractual commitments, and analytics needs; anticipate implications and recommend action
    • Translate strategy into priorities, roadmaps, business plans, governance agendas, decisions, owners, and next steps
    • Prepare leaders for governance, strategic planning, and operational reviews by synthesizing priorities, risks, stakeholder perspectives, trade-offs, and decisions needed
    • Build trusted relationships and influence alignment across partner, account, and ACOE stakeholders
    • Connect work across functions and partnerships to reduce duplication, surface downstream impacts, and identify opportunities for enterprise reuse or standardization while recognizing justified partner-specific needs
  • Portfolio, delivery, and governance
    • Maintain an integrated view of commitments, milestones, service performance, capacity, risks, dependencies, decisions, and accountable owners
    • Identify emerging risks, recommend mitigation, and escalate when leadership intervention is needed
    • Design and sustain governance that clarifies purpose, decision rights, inputs, outputs, participants, and follow-through
    • Ensure priorities and governance decisions translate into coordinated execution, measurable progress, and documented outcomes
    • Track contractual and operational commitments, make gaps visible before they become delivery or relationship risks, and ensure final decisions and required documentation remain accessible for future use
  • Process improvement and organizational operations
    • Assess and improve end-to-end operating practices to strengthen quality, speed, consistency, scalability, and accountability
    • Translate approved changes into practical workflows, role clarity, guidance, adoption plans, documentation, and knowledge transfer
    • Enable ACOE operating forums, communications, workforce and requisition visibility, onboarding and transitions, access, and key organizational resources
    • Support strategic planning, leadership reviews, and organizational initiatives by coordinating inputs, synthesizing themes, and advancing commitments
    • Maintain governance tools, operating frameworks, playbooks, orientation materials, permissions, and knowledge-transfer resources that help employees and leaders navigate the ACOE and sustain continuity through organizational change
  • Communication and value realization
    • Create concise, decision-ready communications that explain progress, business impact, risks, trade-offs, and actions needed
    • Partner with leaders and delivery teams to connect analytics work to stakeholder benefit, adoption, measurable outcomes, and value realization
    • Maintain visibility to relevant performance measures and translate complex information for internal, partner, and leadership audiences
    • Coach contributors preparing for leadership discussions so communications are clear, evidence-based, and responsive to likely questions
    • Coordinate ACOE-wide communications and engagement forums so leaders and presenters are prepared, messaging is aligned, and employees receive timely information about priorities, performance, organizational updates, and accomplishments
  • Business and financial operations
    • Analyze financial, staffing, capacity, productivity, contractual utilization, and operational information to support planning and decisions
    • Identify material variances, trends, and risks that may affect performance, commitments, or value delivery and recommend action
    • Support forecasts, scenario analysis, resource decisions, and business continuity with leaders and Finance
    • Maintain decision-useful workforce and organizational information, including roster, staffing, requisition, people-mapping, and capacity inputs, so leaders can understand changes and make informed resource decisions
