Are you passionate about delivering high-quality science while advancing innovative sensing technologies?

If so, we are looking for scientists like you to join our team at APL!

We are seeking an analytical chemist who enjoys being hands-on in the laboratory while helping drive innovation across our applied chemistry team. Rather than performing routine sample analysis, you'll help develop new analytical capabilities that enable emerging sensing technologies and solve challenging national security problems. You 'll join a hardworking and dedicated team of scientists who collaborate toward fulfilling our sponsors needs using your educational background. We strive to foster an environment of innovation and idea-generation so that multi-disciplinary perspectives can provide new and exciting avenues to research. As a member of our team, you will work with physicists, engineers, analytical chemists and biologists to tackle National Defense's most important problems.

As an Analytical Chemist...
  • Your primary responsibility will be to develop, optimize, and execute analytical methods using chromatographic instrumentation (LC and GC)
  • You will provide analytical chemistry expertise to multidisciplinary project teams
  • You will design, validate, and refine analytical methods for emerging chemical sensing technologies and challenging environmental samples
  • You will propose your own work and explore new technologies using the many resources available to you at APL!

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...
  • Possess a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, or a related field relevant to the duties as described above.
  • Have at least two years post-graduate experience with hands-on, analytical chemistry experience.
  • Are proficient in a variety of sample preparation and extraction techniques.
  • Are able to obtain a Secret level security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

You 'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...
  • Possess a MS in Chemistry, or a related field along with 5 or more years of analytical chemistry experience including method development and instrument troubleshooting
  • Have expertise developing analytical methods using advanced instrumentation beyond LC and GC such as high-resolution mass spectrometry, spectroscopy, thermal analysis.
