Job Description We have an opening for an Academic Graduate Appointee to participate in projects supporting a variety of Laboratory missions. As part of a multi-disciplinary team within the Materials Science Division, you will perform analytical chemistry techniques, including sample preparation, high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), ion chromatography (IC), and ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectroscopy. You will actively support and be expected to participate in a chemistry project where you will develop a process for separation of actinide material from its impurities with the goal of identification and quantification by mass percent with 10% error of the different types.In addition to the development of in process monitoring
In this role you will- Prepare samples for analytical characterization
- Perform established HPLC methods for routine samples
- Characterize ion content of samples using ion chromatography
- Determine elemental quantification using UV-Vis spectroscopy
- Develop a separation process of predetermined impurities based on processing conditions and feed
- Keep an accurate and detailed laboratory notebook; generate, organize, and analyze experimental data; and participate in research planning. Prepare progress reports and presentations to supervisor/mentor and project teams.
- Provide technical support to engineers and scientists in research and development projects.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications - BS in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or in a related field.
- Experience performing wide-ranging experiments in a chemistry laboratory setting.
- Knowledge of general laboratory fundamentals and best practices.
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills necessary to communicate technical information effectively with technicians, peers, and managers.
- Experience operating PC and/or Macintosh computers to collect, analyze and document scientific results.
- Ability to interact effectively with a diverse range of administrative and technical staff in a collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment.
Qualifications we desire- MS in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or in a related field.
- Experience in general chemistry laboratory settings.
- Experience in analytical chemistry techniques such as HPLC, IC, and UV-Vis.
- Experience with python coding and development of chemometrics
Pay Range$6,748 - $7,718 Monthly

Security ClearanceThis position requires either no security clearance, or a Department of Energy (DOE) L-level or Q-level clearance depending on theparticular assignment.
