AltaGas - Senior Engineer Operations

As Senior Engineer, Operations, you will support day-to-day operations at the Ridley Island Propane Export Terminal (RIPET) by providing hands-on technical expertise, leading risk-informed improvements, and executing small capital projects. Working closely with field leadership, you will apply sound engineering judgment to operational issues while supporting asset reliability, safety, and continuous improvement.

This is a full-time role based based out of Calgary headquarters, with travel to site as required.

You Will
  • Provide hands-on engineering support in the field, troubleshoot operational issues, and support timely decision-making alongside field leadership
  • Lead the RIPET risk management process, proactively identifying risks and tracking mitigation actions through to resolution
  • Partner with field leadership to identify operational improvements and support capital investment planning, including contributing to 1-3 year execution plans
  • Lead small plant modifications through the Management of Change (MOC) process and prepare Engineering Work Packages (EWPs) across process, mechanical, instrumentation, and electrical scopes
  • Support small field-based projects, including scope definition, design coordination, cost estimating, execution planning, and cost control
  • Collaborate with the Projects team on site design reviews, HAZOPs, and technical assessments
  • Promote a strong safety culture and support compliance with environmental and operational regulations through audits, training, and incident response


You Have
  • A bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering (Mechanical or Petroleum Engineering considered with relevant experience)
  • 8+ years of oil and gas industry experience, ideally with direct operating company exposure
  • Professional designation P.Eng., P.L.(Eng.), or P.Tech.(Eng.) with APEGA and/or EGBC
  • Strong technical expertise in midstream and terminal LPG infrastructure design, operation, and optimization
  • Experience with PHAs, HAZOPs, and structured risk assessments
  • Knowledge of applicable industry codes and standards (ASME, API, NACE, etc.)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and familiarity with tools such as HYSYS/Promax, PI Vision/Datalink, and Maximo
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic plant environment
  • Comfort working in industrial settings and ability to travel to sites as required
  • A valid driver's license
  • A strong commitment to safety, integrity, and continuous improvement
