Job Description Summary
The AI Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and supporting AI-enabled solutions that enhance operational performance across manufacturing and business processes, while operating within the Information Technology organization. This role partners closely with Operations, Engineering, Finance, Quality, Maintenance, Supply Chain, and IT teams to identify high-value use cases and translate operational challenges into scalable, secure, and compliant AI-driven solutions.
The position focuses on leveraging data, automation, and artificial intelligence to improve safety, quality, throughput, productivity, and process efficiency. The AI Engineer ensures solutions are aligned with IT architecture, security, and governance standards while remaining practical and usable within operational environments. This role also supports the deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement of AI applications and provides technical expertise during adoption, troubleshooting, and process optimization efforts.
Essential Functions
Functional - Partner with Operations, Engineering, Finance, Quality, Maintenance, Supply Chain, and IT to identify and prioritize AI and data-driven opportunities that improve safety, quality, and productivity
- Translate operational problems into defined AI use cases, including clear requirements, KPIs, and success criteria (e.g., downtime reduction, defect reduction, cycle time improvement)
- Design, develop, and deploy AI-enabled applications, models, and automation solutions that integrate with enterprise systems and manufacturing processes
- Ensure all AI solutions align with IT standards for architecture, cybersecurity, data governance, and compliance
- Lead pilot initiatives from concept through deployment, including data preparation, testing, validation, user training, and operational integration
- Collaborate with IT teams to build and maintain data pipelines, system integrations, and infrastructure required to support AI applications
- Monitor and maintain deployed AI solutions to ensure performance, reliability, and scalability
- Identify and mitigate risks associated with AI deployment, including data integrity, model bias, operational impact, and system failures
- Support continuous improvement efforts by analyzing operational data, identifying trends, and recommending AI-driven enhancements
- Document AI systems, models, logic, and dependencies to support auditability, maintainability, and knowledge transfer
- Provide technical support and subject matter expertise to Operations, Engineering, Finance, Quality, Maintenance, Supply Chain, and IT teams, including troubleshooting and optimization of AI-enabled processes
Qualifications
Education and Experience- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Data Science, or a related technical field; equivalent practical experience considered
- 0-5 years of experience in AI, machine learning, data engineering, software engineering, or automation-focused roles, preferably in a manufacturing environment
- 0-5 years of experience developing, deploying, or supporting AI/ML models and data-driven applications in a production environment
- Proficiency in programming and scripting languages (e.g., Python) and familiarity with AI/ML frameworks or platforms
- Experience integrating AI solutions with enterprise systems, databases, or manufacturing/operational systems
- Understanding of IT architecture, system integration, cybersecurity principles, and data governance
- Familiarity with manufacturing or operational processes preferred
- Experience working in cross-functional environments, translating business needs into technical solutions
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work with large datasets and complex systems

This position requires use of information or access to production processes subject to national security controls under U.S. export control laws and regulations (including, but not limited to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and the Export Administration Regulations (EAR)).
