About the RoleAs our AI Developer, you'll be one of the foundational members on the MFA Technologies team. You'll partner directly with operators and leadership across the Lorval businesses to capture real operational needs, then translate them into shipped applications using AI-assisted development workflows as a daily force multiplier.
You'll report to the Director of AI and collaborate closely on prioritization, architectural choices, and pragmatic trade-offs. You'll help set the development standards, patterns, and tooling baseline that define how MFA Technologies builds.
What You'll Do- Partner with the Business - Sit down with operators, plant managers, and executives across the Lorval businesses to capture real operational requirements before writing code.
- Ship Internal Applications - Build internal business applications that replace manual processes and spreadsheets across the portfolio.
- Embed AI Where It Matters - Ship AI-powered features that automate judgment-intensive workflows - document processing, extraction, summarization, triage, and decision support.
- Build with AI Leverage - Use Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, and the wider AI tooling stack as daily accelerators - and stay ahead of what's possible as the landscape evolves.
- Set the Foundations - Establish the foundational architecture, patterns, and reusable components for the broader AI-driven operating system vision.
- Define the Standards - Help define the development standards, practices, and tooling baseline for the growing MFA Technologies team.
- Make It Maintainable - Write code and documentation clear enough that the next developer, co-op, or contractor can pick it up and run.
What We're Looking For- 7+ years of professional software development experience shipping production applications.
- Strong proficiency in Python and a modern web framework (React, Next.js, or equivalent).
- Hands-on experience building AI-powered features with LLM APIs (Anthropic, OpenAI, or similar) - including prompt engineering, structured outputs, RAG, tool use, and handling non-deterministic behavior.
- Demonstrated daily use of AI-assisted development tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot) as part of your workflow - not as toys.
- Solid working knowledge of relational databases, REST/GraphQL APIs, and system integration.
- Excellent written and verbal communication - you'll be working directly with non-technical business stakeholders, not just other engineers.
- A bias toward shipping. We measure progress in working software, not in lines of code or hours logged.
Bonus Points For- Located in British Columbia - Lower Mainland or Fraser Valley preferred.
- Experience building internal business tools, enterprise applications, or ERP integrations.
- Familiarity with manufacturing or real estate business workflow.
- Experience with Microsoft Azure and the Microsoft 365 / Graph ecosystem.
- A public portfolio (GitHub, side projects, technical writing) demonstrating both AI-accelerated delivery and AI-powered application features.
Why You'll Want This Role- Foundational hire on a new AI-first software company with a clear mandate and committed backing - your work shapes what gets built and how.
- Real internal customers across an active portfolio of operating businesses.
- Daily, hands-on work with the most advanced AI development tools available - and the runway to push them to their limits.
- Direct collaboration with the Director of AI and team on what to build, how to build it, and what trade-offs to make.
- Influence on architecture, patterns, and team standards from day one.
