SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED: Receives general direction from a Community Services Manager. Exercises direct supervision over technical, administrative, and program support staff.
CLASS CHARACTERISTICS: After-School Recreation Coordinator I: This is the first/entry level supervisory class within the After-School Recreation Coordinator series. Initially incumbents learn and perform the more routine duties associated with the assigned after-school recreation and education programs and staff. As experience is gained assignments become more varied, complex, and difficult; close supervision and frequent review of work lessen as an incumbent demonstrates skill to perform the work independently. Positions at this level usually perform most of the duties required of the positions at the After-School Recreation Coordinator II level, but are not expected to function at the same skill level and usually exercise less independent discretion and judgment in matters related to work procedures and methods. Work is usually supervised while in progress and fits an established structure or pattern. Exceptions or changes in procedures are explained in detail as they arise.
After-School Recreation Coordinator II:This is the second/full supervisory-level class within After-School Recreation Coordinator series that exercises independent judgment on diverse and specialized after-school recreation and education programs with accountability and ongoing decision-making responsibilities associated with the work. Incumbents are responsible for planning, organizing, supervising, reviewing, and evaluating the work of staff and for providing technical support to management in a variety of areas. Performance of the work requires the use of independence, initiative, and discretion within established guidelines.
Positions in the After-School Recreation Coordinator class series are flexibly staffed; positions at the After-School Recreation Coordinator II level are normally filled by advancement from the After-School Recreation Coordinator I level; progression to the After-School Recreation Coordinator II level is dependent on (i) management affirmation that the position is performing the full range of duties assigned to the classification; (ii) satisfactory work performance; (iii) the incumbent meeting the minimum qualifications for the classification including any licenses and certifications; and (iv) management approval for progression to the After-School Recreation Coordinator II level.
