The Opportunity:

As an AFM Budget SME, you will serve as a trusted advisor—helping shape financial processes, strengthen system reliability, and ensure compliance with critical DoD and Air Force regulations. Responsibilities:

  • Develop and conduct requirements reviews to ensure alignment with Air Force policy.

  • Perform functional acceptance testing to validate system updates and enhancements.

  • Translate conceptual requirements into clear, actionable functional requirements for developers and project teams.

  • Investigate and perform root‑cause analysis to resolve system issues and recommend improvements.

  • Create user‑friendly functional system documentation for end-users.

  • Guide projects, optimize processes, and ensure compliance with DoD and Air Force standards and regulations.

  • Provide Tier 2 system support to Air Force users to ensure reliable system performance.


Qualifications:

Required: 

  • Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain a favorable NACI clearance.

  • Bachelor’s degree in financial management, accounting, or information systems OR 10+ years of Federal Budget experience.

  • Comprehensive understanding of the Air Force budget at Air Staff or MAJCOM level—including appropriation types (3400, 3600, 3010/3020/3080, etc.).

  • Knowledge of fiscal law constraints (Anti-Deficiency Act, Bona Fide Need).

  • Familiarity with FIAR standards, DoD FMR 7000.14‑R, and Air Force guidance (DAFI 65-series).

  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.

  • Direct experience with data collection and analysis.

  • Experience testing and mapping business processes.

  • Ability to interpret technical discussions, analyze issues, develop solutions, and maintain clear documentation.

  • Excellent communication, organizational, time‑management, and problem‑solving abilities.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively while managing multiple priorities under deadlines.


Desired:

  • Experience supporting Air Force financial systems or DoD programs.

  • Advanced experience developing functional documentation and requirements.

  • Background in process improvement or system compliance oversight.

  • Experience providing Tier 2 or higher-tier system support.

There are a host of factors that can influence final salary including, but not limited to, geographic location, Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, relevant prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education, and certifications.
