PPG has an exciting opportunity for an
Aerospace Lean & Industrial Operations Engineer for the Shipping and Receiving Departments at our Kennesaw, GA location. In this on-site role with PPG's Aerospace Business, you'll serve as the driving force behind operational excellence, Lean transformation, and industrial process optimization within the Shipping and Receiving Departments. You will lead daily operations with a strategic emphasis on workflow engineering, waste elimination, and continuous improvement, while building and developing a high-performing team. In this role, you will play a critical part in ensuring safe, efficient, and scalable operations that directly support PPG's aerospace sales and delivery goals.
This position reports directly to the Aerospace Site Manager at our Kennesaw, GA facility.
Key ResponsibilitiesOperations & Workflow Management- Supervise daily operations of the Shipping and Receiving Departments, ensuring seamless end-to-end workflow efficiency
- Oversee drivers, trucks, and weekly delivery schedules, optimizing routing and timing to reduce delays and improve throughput
- Monitor daily operations to maintain schedule adherence, safe practices, and workflow continuity
- Coordinate material and equipment needs for shipping and receiving activities, minimizing bottlenecks and downtime
Lean & Continuous Improvement- Champion and lead Lean initiatives, including 5S, Kaizen events, and Value Stream Mapping (VSM), to drive measurable process improvements and eliminate waste
- Identify and implement workflow improvements across shipping and receiving processes to enhance speed, accuracy, and cost efficiency
- Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the impact of Lean and workflow improvement efforts
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement by engaging team members in problem-solving and process optimization activities
- Apply standard work principles to document, standardize, and sustain improved processes across the department
Team Leadership & Development- Direct workflow, train employees, and ensure appropriate staffing levels to meet operational demands
- Hire, train, develop, and retain qualified team members with a focus on building Lean competency within the team
- Lead daily team activities by setting clear expectations, communicating effectively, and managing multiple priorities to meet operational goals
- Ensure department goals are consistently met in alignment with safety, quality, and procedural standards
Compliance & Accuracy- Ensure all shipping and receiving activities comply with applicable regulatory and safety standards
Qualifications- Only U.S. Citizens, Green Card holders, political asylees, or refugees are eligible to apply
- Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering or a related field, OR equivalent experience in industrial engineering, continuous improvement, Lean manufacturing, or an associated field
- Lean/CI Experience: Demonstrated experience applying Lean tools and methodologies (5S, Kaizen, VSM, standard work) in a warehouse, logistics, or manufacturing environment preferred
- Forklift certification and DOTA/IATA/IMDG experience a plus
- Experience using QAD or similar ERP system a plus
