The primary focus will be aerodynamics, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and mechanical design. The Aeronautical Engineer is expected to provide technical support in both R&D and new business pursuits.

Duties and Responsibilities:

§ Conduct aerothermal analysis using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) methods with oversight from senior engineers.

§ Support of wind tunnel test campaigns at aerodynamic and icing facilities, including test condition generation and results analysis.

§ Create and maintain 3D and 2D design definitions in SolidWorks. Utilize Finite Element Analysis (FEA) where appropriate.

§ Conduct technical design reviews and FMEAs to identify critical design factors and risks that impact product performance and manufacturability.

§ Understand manufacturing capabilities and incorporate manufacturing input into the design process.

§ Design to meet DO-160 or MIL-STD-810 testing standards.

§ Generate requirements for contracted services and oversee the quality and timeliness of the contracted services.

§ Drive simultaneous projects through the design cycle to completion.

§ Utilize structured problem solving to identify and eliminate the root cause of technical issues that arise.

§ Provide obsolescence and sustaining engineering support for legacy products.

Qualifications:

§ Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Aeronautical/Aerospace Engineering

§ Must be able to work with ITAR products and related data without restriction.

Skill Set Required:

§ Proficient in data analysis, detailed CAD modeling, and simulation tools such as: MATLAB, ANSYS/Fluent, SolidWorks, etc.

§ Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation of compressible airflow using commercial CFD code and meshing tools.

§ Experience with core manufacturing processes and techniques is preferred (machining, welding, brazing, assembly, and testing)

§ Proficient with ASME Y14.5 and use of Geometric Dimensions and Tolerances (GD&T).

§ Strong technical writing stills including procedure creation, and requirements and specifications development, both for internal designs and external contractors.

§ Experience with the design of FAA certified products, preferred.

§ Knowledge of SAE Aerospace Standards AS8006A, AS5562, and FAA TSO C16b, preferred.

§ Experience with aircraft systems, flight testing, and wind tunnel testing is preferred.

§ Excellent writing, oral, and reporting skills: produce/present technical documentation, customer briefings.
