ADVISOR, GOVERNMENT AND INTEREST HOLDER REALTIONS

The Opportunity

We are seeking a dynamic Government and Interest Holder Relations Advisor to support and advance our engagement with government and key interest holder organizations. As the Government and Interest Holder Relations Advisor, you will be part of a team responsible for developing and executing BC Ferries' engagement activities guided by our corporate engagement framework. In this role, you will contribute to the development and execution of engagement strategies, ensuring BC Ferries is well-prepared for interactions with government and interest holders by providing strategic analysis, developing high-quality materials, and supporting consistent, evidence-based engagement.

The Role

Reporting to the Director, Community Relations, the Government and Interest Holder Relations Advisor contributes value through key areas of oversight such as:
  • Supporting the development and implementation of government and interest holder engagement strategies, ensuring alignment with corporate priorities;
  • Monitoring legislative, political, and funding developments, providing timely and concise analysis to support leadership awareness and operational readiness;
  • Drafting materials including briefing notes, correspondence, public reports, and executive summaries to support engagement activities;
  • Planning and coordinating government and interest holder engagement activities (e.g., roundtables, working sessions, project updates), ensuring clear objectives and follow-through;
  • Supporting BC Ferries' participation in multi-party discussions, representing the organization as required;
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams (e.g., Customer Relations, Engineering, Strategy and Planning) to align messaging, share insights, and support consistent external engagement;
  • Assisting in the development and continuous improvement of tools, processes, and practices that strengthen government and interest holder relations;

What you bring to the team
  • Bachelor's degree in Public Policy, Political Science, Communications, Public Affairs, or a closely related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Degrees in Public Administration, Public Affairs, or Policy are preferred
  • 3-5 years of experience in government relations, interest holder engagement, or public affairs, ideally in a transportation, infrastructure, or marine context
  • Training with the International Association of Public Participation (IAP2) or other recognized institution
  • Membership in Public Affairs Association of Canada or Government Relations Institute of Canada
  • Experience with public engagement and working to influence and deliver change in established business practices

Additional information

The target salary range: $83,500 - $104,300 per annum. The starting salary is determined based on the successful candidate's knowledge, experience and internal equity.
