Job Summary:

Trane Technologies is seeking an Advanced Quality Planning Engineer - I to join our team at our Grand Rapids, MI location. This in-plant position requires the individual to be on-site to support New Product Development (NPD), Engineering to Order (ETO) projects and Design to Order (DTO) projects. The Advanced Quality Engineer will be responsible for ensuring flawless product launches while executing and optimizing quality management programs that assist internal staff, suppliers, customers, and partners in achieving company objectives related to cost, efficiency, and quality.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Support project teams during meetings and gate reviews by supplying data for the quality topics necessary for successful project launches throughout various phases.
  • Monitor operations performance, conduct risk assessments, report findings, and support improvement programs within the plant.
  • Maintain strong Shop-floor presence during prototype builds (MAB/MVB) and pre-launch phases to proactively identify, investigate and resolve quality concerns in real time
  • Collaborate with project teams and plant teams to resolve quality issues that arise during the prototype stage and early builds.
  • Leverage voice of the customer (VOC), field warranty data, and parts return to proactively drive design, process and supplier-level quality improvements during early phases of product development.
  • Participate in investigations during Early Launch Containment (ELC) and work closely with supplier quality, engineering, and manufacturing teams to resolve quality issues and maintain high standards throughout the supply chain.
  • Support Major Quality Disruptions investigations utilizing standard work tools such as Controlled Shipping, SCAR, and Warranty/MQD recovery process.
  • Support and deploy Manufacturing Readiness Tracker per BOS.
  • Support initiatives to drive competency and development of resources as it pertains to MRT.
  • Ensure compliance with our ISO Quality System, meeting all deliverables for customers and regulatory bodies.


Skills and Competencies:
  • Monitor and report early launch quality KPI`s such as First Pass Yield (FPY), Scrap rate, and PPM.
  • Demonstrate competence and consistent performance on projects ranked at various levels of complexity using the following tools and techniques:
    • Conduct statistical validation of critical to quality (CTQ) features, including capability studies (Cp, CpK) and control charts for launch readiness.
    • Assist in creating and maintaining DFMEA, PFMEA, and Control Plans.
    • Participate in component design and drawing reviews
    • Establish, track, manage, and report on PPAP.
    • Review supplier component gaging concepts
    • Assist with the development, management, and execution of Early Launch Containment Plans.
    • Develop in-process measurement strategies, and gage development
    • Travel - 10-15%


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a related field OR 3+ years of experience as AQE in lieu of a degree. High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous manufacturing experience is required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
  • In-depth knowledge of various quality system methodologies, including Lean, 5 Why's, Pareto Analysis, Six Sigma, DFMEA, PFMEA, PPAP, APQP, MSA, SPC, and GD&T


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certification in Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, and or ASQ Certified Quality Engineer
  • Experience with ISO Quality Systems and regulatory compliance.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.


Annual Base Salary Range or Hourly Base Pay Range:
$65,200.00 - $118,860.00
