Job Title: Advanced Practice Provider, Transitional Urology Patient Management



Job Summary:

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) hired at the faculty rank of instructor (1.0 FTE) carries out duties related to patient care on the Transitional Urology Inpatient and Outpatient Services. These duties include inpatient and outpatient assessment, patient education, care coordination and disease management as well as the provision of urologic consultation to other services. Close collaboration with the surgeons, resident staff and hospital staff will be necessary. This position will serve as an integral part of the Urology team and will primarily provide care to the Transitional Urology patient population. This position will secondarily provide care to the Pediatric Urology patient population and general Urology patient population while on the Urology Service and during all transitions of care.

This position will be based at both Children's Hospital Colorado and University of Colorado Hospital.

This position is a unique opportunity to participate in growing academic and educational areas for the Transitional Urology program including involvement in academic conferences, journal club, symposia, and contribution to publications.

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical Patient Care - Inpatient & Outpatient (60%)

• Evaluate and manage patients who are candidates for urologic care and surgical intervention by obtaining comprehensive medical histories, performing physical examinations, ordering and interpreting appropriate diagnostic tests, and developing treatment plans.
• Provide inpatient and outpatient urologic consultations in collaboration with faculty physicians and residents.
• Evaluate and manage patients with urgent or emergent urologic concerns in coordination with the primary surgical team.
• Monitor post-operative recovery, identify and manage complications, and ensure continuity of care throughout the treatment process.

Hospital Rounding, Care Coordination & Patient Management (20%)

• Conduct daily inpatient rounds, assess patient progress, document clinical findings, write medical orders, coordinate discharge planning, and provide ongoing disease management.
• Coordinate patient care across multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless transitions between inpatient and outpatient settings.
• Monitor patient status between physician visits and provide continuity of care to optimize outcomes.

Patient Education, Communication & Triage (10%)

• Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment options, surgical procedures, risks, benefits, post-operative care, and disease management.
• Triage patient telephone calls, electronic messages, and other communications to assess clinical needs, provide consultation, and coordinate appropriate follow-up care.

Quality Improvement, Compliance & Administrative Responsibilities (10%)

• Participate in performance improvement initiatives, quality improvement projects, and patient safety activities.
• Support compliance with organizational policies, Joint Commission accreditation standards, infection prevention protocols, environmental safety requirements, and the Code of Conduct.
• Attend required departmental meetings, participate on committees, and contribute to organizational and clinical practice initiatives as assigned.

Work Location:

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing. Masters degree in Nursing required, or a graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant school.
• Current license to practice as an Advanced Practice Nurse/ Physician Assistant with prescriptive privileges.
• Meets and maintains the requirements of the Nursing Credential Review Board for the Advanced Practice Nurse/ Physician Assistant.
• Current license to practice professional nursing or as a Physician Assistant in the State of Colorado.

Preferred Qualifications:
• One year prior experience in surgical subspecialty or inpatient care.
• Previous experience in urologic clinical setting.
• Demonstrated skill in outpatient surgical care.
• One year experience as an APP

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

$112,382-$134,784

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
