Are you looking for a career as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in Thoracic Surgery? Look no further than BJC! At Barnes-Jewish Hospital, you'll have the opportunity to join a highly respected Thoracic Surgery team caring for patients with complex chest conditions. This role offers the chance to develop advanced surgical and acute care expertise while working alongside experienced surgeons, fellows, residents, and a collaborative multidisciplinary team dedicated to exceptional patient care.

Position Details:
• Full-time, 12-hour day shifts (6:00 AM - 6:00 PM)
• No call and no night coverage required
• Weekend commitment of one Saturday every four weeks
• Manage acute-care and intermediate-care thoracic surgery patients in a progressive care setting
• Opportunities to work closely with surgeons, fellows, residents, and an experienced APP team

Role Purpose

The advanced practice provider functions within their scope of practice as a healthcare provider, working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary health team to provide comprehensive care to patients and families. The role demonstrates a high degree of clinical expertise in working with patients with acute and chronic illnesses commonly encountered within the inpatient setting. This position demonstrates an advanced level of clinical knowledge, communication, interdisciplinary collaboration, professionalism, and systems-based practice. They work with administration staff, nurses, physicians, medical/surgical trainees, and other staff to assure safe, effective, quality patient care.Minimum Board Certification(s):Barnes Jewish Hospital (BJH): Physician Assistant-Certified (PA-C), Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (AGPCNP), Adult Nurse Practitioner (ANP), or Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP- with appropriate experience)St. Louis Children's Hospital (SLCH): Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Primary Care (CPNP-PC), Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Acute Care (CPNP-AC), or FNPPreferred Board Certification(s): BJH: Physician Assistant-Certified (PA-C), Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP) or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP)SLCH: CPNP-AC

Responsibilities
  • Provides compassionate, appropriate, and effective patient and family-centered care for health recovery, illness prevention, treatment of critically ill, or end-of-life care.
  • Responsible for assessment, diagnosis, treatment, management, education, health promotion, and care coordination for patients and families with acute and chronic health needs in an academic inpatient setting.
  • Communicates and collaborates effectively with patients, families, physicians, medical/surgical trainees, and other health professionals.
  • Demonstrates the highest level of accountability for professional practice by participating in professional development, quality initiative/performance activities, and implementing standards of care within area of specialization.
  • BJC has determined this is a safety-sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function of this job.
