Responsibilities

  • Compile comprehensive patient data through examinations and health history
  • Administer or order diagnostic tests, interpret results in collaboration with the Physician
  • Develop and implement management plans and ensure continuity of care
  • Counsel patients on medication compliance and provide follow-up on test results

Full Job Description
Position Description

Employees in this position are responsible for augmenting a supervising physician's data gathering abilities to reach decisions and institute patient care plans. Provides health care services to patients under direction and responsibility of a Physician.

Major/Essential Functions

  • Provides patient services under direct supervision and responsibility of Physician and/or Medical Director.
  • Involvement in patient evaluations, both follow up and new patient clinic visits, may include inpatient rounds.
  • Elicits detailed patient histories.
  • Screen New Patient intake packets for needed information:
    • MD referral details and office notes, op notes
    • Pathology reports, slide requests and procedure notes.
    • Obtain radiology reports and arrange for films
    • Mammogram reports, colonoscopy reports, biopsy results, Pap/HPV reports
  • Examines patient, performs comprehensive physical examination and compiles patient medical data, including health history and results of physical examination.
  • Administers or orders diagnostic tests and interprets test results for deviations from normal in collaboration with Physician.
  • Performs therapeutic procedures and post follow up care such as injections, immunizations, wound care, staple removal and chemotherapy orders.
  • Develops and implements patient management plans, records progress notes and assist in provision of continuity of care.
  • Answer patient phone calls, provide symptom management during operating hours.
  • Assist with routine medication refills, new Rx in consultation with attending Physician.
  • Provide notification of test results to patients (Pap/HPV, bone density scans, routine x-rays).
  • Assist with chemotherapy education and counseling.
  • Instructs and counsels patients regarding compliance with prescribed regimens.
  • Optional, provides surgical assistance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Pay Statement

Compensation is commensurate upon the qualifications of the individual selected and budgetary guidelines of the hiring department, as well as the institutional pay plan. For additional information, please reference the institutional pay plan website.

Required Qualifications

Graduation from a Physician Assistant's training program approved by the Council on Allied Health Education Accreditation of the American Medical Association. Current Physician Assistant license in the State of Texas or ability to transfer license to Texas. Certification as a Physician Assistant as evidenced by passing the examinations given by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants. OR Graduation from an accredited school of nursing as a nurse practitioner from an approved certification program recognized by Texas State Board of Nurse Examiners. Current R.N. license as approved by the Texas State Board of Nurse Examiners or ability to transfer license to Texas. Certification as a Nurse Practitioner from an approved certification program as recognized by Texas State Board of Nurse Examiners or ability to transfer certification to Texas.

Visa Information

TTUHSC, at its sole discretion, may initiate new H-1B I-129 visa petitions in accordance with the directive issued by Governor Abbott. Approval from the Texas Workforce Commission is required. On a limited, case-by-case basis, the institution may also sponsor eligible individuals for change-of-status or change-of-employer petitions for qualifying positions. TTUHSC will not pay the $100,000 fee, if applicable.
