A total of one (1), 1.0 FTE Advanced Practice Professional (either NP or PA) will be hired to fill this job opening.

Responsibilities*

The Department of Urology is seeking a qualified APP to join the inpatient Urology service. In this position, the APP will evaluate and manage a range of complex care for inpatient adult urology patients. Clinical areas include General Urology, Incontinence, Neurourology and Reconstructive Urology, Uro-oncology, Endo-urology, and Andrology.

Responsibilities:
  • Management of care for adult patients admitted to the Urology service.
  • Daily list updates and rounding with resident and attending teams.
  • Ordering, interpretation, and management of appropriate imaging and lab studies.
  • Identification, ordering and monitoring of appropriate pharmacologic agents.
  • Providing and documenting care according to University of Michigan Health System standards including progress notes, discharge summaries and consults with associated billing codes where appropriate.
  • Patient education including urologic condition recommendations, Percutaneous Nephrostomy Tube management and flushes, neobladder irrigation, foley management, SPT management, ostomy care, catheter care including intermittent self-catheterization, wound care, and pre and post operative care.
  • Coordinating timely discharge process with patient and family education, solution generating for any barriers that arise, and communication with chief resident and/or supervising physician.
  • Evaluation of acute post op patients.
  • Assist in minor procedures as directed by attending physician.
  • Coordination and discussion of patient care with consulting services.
  • Participate in clinical trials when applicable.
  • These job duties may be modified depending on the needs of the Department of Urology.

Required Qualifications*

NP Requirements
  • Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse and specialty certification as a NP in the State of Michigan
  • Current specialty certification to practice as an Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner.
  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Certification as a Nurse Practitioner recognized by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN).
  • Current DEA registration required
  • ACLS required (separate AHA approved BLS also required unless ACLS was completed through the UMHS Simulation Center).
  • One (1) year of experience as a PA/NP

PA Requirements
  • Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of Michigan.
  • Satisfactory completion of a Physician Assistant program accredited by Accreditation Review Commission Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or one of its predecessor agencies, CAHEA or CAAHEP.
  • Certification by the National Commission on Certification for Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
  • State of Michigan Controlled Substance License Required
  • Current DEA registration required
  • ACLS required (separate AHA approved BLS also required unless ACLS was completed through the UMHS Simulation Center).
  • One (1) year of experience as a PA/NP

Desired Qualifications*
  • Experience with surgical patient care.
  • One (1) year of Urology experience as a PA/NP, inpatient experience is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in evaluation and care of preoperative and postoperative surgical patients.
  • Experience with giving history and physical examinations, writing patient orders and progress notes, hospital rounds and consultations, call, ordering and interpreting diagnostic studies.
  • Experience performing i ndependent minor procedures or ass isting in the operating room.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, and as part of a collaborative team
