Full Job Description
The Advanced NVH Engineer will focus on simulation activities to support product development and research in the NVH (Noise, Vibration and Harshness) domain for hybrid and electrified propulsion systems and subsystems, including Internal Combustion Engines, Transmissions, and Electric Drive Modules (EDM). The engineer will be responsible for developing and validating models, running simulations, performing post-processing, and effectively communicating results to internal customers. Requests will be received from product owners, and the engineer will provide analytical results using existing tools and methodologies or develop new ones when necessary. This position reports to the Virtual Analysis Lead of the discipline. Strong technical expertise, interpersonal skills, and team leadership capabilities are essential.

The responsibility of the Advanced NVH Engineer will include, but not limited to:
  • Develop and validate FE (Finite Element) and MBD (Multi-Body Dynamics) models for propulsion system components, sub-systems, and systems. Activities include data gathering, pre-processing, execution, post-processing, and reporting.
  • Execute NVH linear simulations using FE models for structural evaluation (modal analysis, mobility, mount vibrations) and acoustic assessments (radiated noise, transmission loss).
  • Execute NVH non-linear simulations using MBD tools (AVL Excite), modeling all moving components-e.g., crankshaft, pistons, rods for ICE; axles, shafts, gear wheels for EDM-along with non moving structural parts such as housings and brackets, including assembly loads when applicable.
  • Post-process results and perform critical analyses involving torsional and bending resonances, mounts mobility and vibration, bearing loads, ODS (Operating Deflection Shapes), NTPA (Numerical Transfer Path Analysis), and MPF (Modal Participation Factor).
  • Conduct detailed studies including root-cause analysis, identification of enablers, and validation of solutions to meet NVH targets.
  • Perform correlation activities aimed at demonstrating the reliability and confidence level of virtual analyses.
  • Run DoE and optimization analyses to ensure the best trade off between NVH performance and other key metrics (e.g., weight).
  • Coordinate CAE validation plans for propulsion system programs, including analysis scopes, target alignment with stakeholders, on-time status reporting, and proactive identification of enablers when targets are not achieved.
  • Prepare technical reports and communicate findings clearly, including key takeaways, executive summaries, root-cause analyses, and risk mitigation plans when needed.
  • Interact directly with STLA stakeholders for steering activities: input data collection and validation, results review, and communication.
  • Support training and mentoring of new engineers.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, accredited by ABET or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience and demonstrated capability in CAE (preferably in NVH).
  • Proven knowledge of FE solvers (Nastran,Abaqus, OptiStruct), pre-processing (ANSA), acoustic (ACTRAN), and multibody (AVL Excite) tools.
  • General knowledge of CAD and packaging tools such as NX and Teamcenter.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master of Science in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, Industrial, Computer Engineering, Applied Physics, or related fields).
  • In-depth knowledge of propulsion system design, with a focus on ICE, conventional/electrified transmissions, EDMs, and engine systems.
  • Proven knowledge of propulsion systems NVH phenomena: structure- vs and air-borne noise, ICE vs EDM noise characteristics, mitigation strategies at component and system level.
  • Experience translating vehicle-level requirements into propulsion system use cases and acceptance criteria.
  • DFSS certification.
