Title: Advanced Practice Provider, APP, Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, ARNP, NP, PA, PAC
Position Summary:In collaboration with a physician, and according to the collaborative practice protocol provides inpatient management, consultations, and co-management of medical and surgical patients.
Responsibilities
- Performs complex diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in diagnosing medical and surgical problems and prescribing necessary treatment and services for quality patient care.
- Operates with the highest degree of independence in provision of patient care services with minimal physician supervision and generally in a highly specialized area.
- Obtains detailed history and performs physical examinations on patients.
- Writes and/or dictates progress notes on patient charts indicating patient status and treatment or procedures performed.
- Performs emergency lifesaving procedures in cases such cardiac arrest, respiratory arrest, massive hemorrhage, or similar catastrophe.
- Performs daily rounds independently or with attending physicians and/or students.
- Participates in the department weekend/ holiday rounding as required.
- Performs H & P examinations and documents appropriately in the medical record. (Must be reviewed and countersigned by supervising medical staff member within 24 hours and may not be substituted for physician H & P).
- Monitor and evaluate patient clinical status; reports change in status to supervising medical staff member for management
- Notifies attending physician about unusual or unexpected events or problems requiring direct physician consultation.
- Prescribes medication
- Issues oral and written orders on, to be reviewed and countersigned by the supervising medical staff member within 24 hours.
- Writes or dictates reports, progress notes, discharge summaries, and clinical resumes, to be reviewed and countersigned by supervising medical staff member within 24 hours.
- Perform special diagnostic procedures as credentialed and privileged (
- Performs advanced cardiac life support. In a medical emergency, the Physician Assistant will act on behalf of the supervising medical staff member to maintain life support until a licensed physician arrives to manage the patient.
- Perform patient education.
- Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
- Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
- Acts as a role model and resource person for staff.
- Participates in review and revision of policies and procedures.
- Establishes relationships with professional of other health-related groups within the community.
- Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication with diverse populations, including physicians, employees, patients, and families.
- Participates in basic science and clinical research projects.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education/Training Nurse Practitioner
- MN or MSN or DNP or PhD or DNS degree in nursing.
Physician Assistant
- Graduate of accredited physician assistant program.
Licensure/Certification Nurse Practitioner
- APRN license in the state of Florida.
- After July 1, 2006, licensure applicants are required to have national advanced certification from an approved nursing specialty board.
- Maintains current BLS certification.
Physician Assistant
- Maintain current physician assistant licensure in State of Florida.
- Maintain current BLS/healthcare certification.
Experience - Inpatient experience preferred
