Job Summary
The Advanced Practice Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) Sonographer Supervisor is a mid-level healthcare professional who operates under the delegated authority of a supervising physician. This position combines advanced clinical sonography expertise with leadership responsibilities, acting both as a physician extender and supervisor for the sonography team. The APS Supervisor delivers specialized maternal-fetal sonographic care, oversees daily operations within the department, and ensures all activities adhere to established protocols, policies, procedures, and professional standards. In addition to performing complex sonographic examinations, the Supervisor is responsible for staff supervision, maintaining high standards of patient care, and supporting ongoing quality improvement. All duties are performed in accordance with the individual's education, training, and applicable regulatory requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
Education/Specialized Training/Licensure:
a. Associates Degree (graduate of an accredited medical sonography program)
b. Basic Life Support from approved American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) Program
c. American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography RDMS in OBGYN specialty
d. American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography RDMS or RDCS in Fetal Echocardiography (FE) specialty (Preferred)
e. Cervical length certification (Preferred)
Work Experience:
Five (5) Years Work Experience in MFM ultrasound scanning
Management Experience:
Two (2) Years Work Experience in leadership role or education (Preferred)
Communication Skills:
Above Average Verbal (Heavy Public Contact)

5. Quality Assurance & Accreditation: Ensures all sonography examinations meet departmental protocols and AIUM accreditation standards. Assists in quality assurance, performance improvement, and research initiatives.
6. Operational Management: Manages daily operations, workload scheduling, and resource allocation. Troubleshoots equipment and environmental concerns, and maintains preventive maintenance programs for ultrasound equipment.
7. Technical Proficiency: Demonstrates mastery of ultrasound equipment and advanced imaging techniques, providing technical oversight and training to staff in complex clinical settings.
8. Regulatory & Professional Compliance: Maintains professional and technical knowledge, ensuring staff meet licensure, certification, and continuing education requirements. Upholds privacy, safety, and ethical standards.
9. Patient-Centered Care: Provides compassionate care, consistently seeking opportunities to exceed patient needs and expectations, and advocates for patients within the healthcare team.
10. Program Development & Representation: Assists with protocol, policy, and technology development; coordinates research projects; represents the department internally and externally; and organizes staff meetings, huddles, and educational presentations.
