As an actuary in Guardian’s Actuarial Leadership Development Program (ALDP), you will develop a thorough understanding of our products and how your job responsibilities contribute towards achieving the goals of Guardian. The program also focuses on developing versatile future leaders with cross-functional business acumen and leadership skills. You will assist in performing financial and non-financial analysis and make recommendations consistent with Guardian’s goals regarding growth and profitability. As part of ALDP, expect to rotate departments every 18 to 24 months, providing the opportunity for a breadth of experience.

You have
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a mathematics-based field
- Regularly taking actuarial exams to pursue the Actuarial Fellow designation in the Society of Actuaries
- A minimum of two years of prior work experience in the actuarial field
- Proficient in MS Excel as well as experience in using actuarial modeling / data visualization software
- Ability to communicate pricing analyses to technical and non-technical audiences
- Ability to contribute to multiple projects with multiple deliverables simultaneously
- Strong analytical and technical skills with the ability to synthesize sophisticated information
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science
- Actuarial Associate designation in the Society of Actuaries
- 3-5 years of prior work experience in the actuarial field
- An understanding of group pricing practices including the use of experience
- Prior work experience in Group Pricing, particularly Disability coverage
You will
- Utilize internal and external data sources to better understand industry trends, clients, competitors, and the regulatory environment
- Complete assignments on time and according to specifications provided by your supervisor as independently as possible, recognizing situations where managerial guidance is needed
- Execute rate development and state rate filings that support the strategic goals set forth by the Group Finance Strategy Team
- Provide actuarial support for product, underwriting, finance, and distribution initiatives impacting pricing models and resulting rates
- Recommend and actively support the use of new and advanced techniques to modernize the pricing approach and improve accuracy
Reporting Relationships
As our Actuarial Associate, you will report to our Head of Disability Pricing, who reports to our Head of Group Benefit Pricing & Analytics.

- Hybrid - 3 days in office located in Bethlehem, PA; Hudson Yards, NYC; Holmdel NJ, Stamford, CT; Pittsfield MA or Boston MA. 2 days WFH.
Salary Range:
$79,310.00 - $130,295.00
The salary range reflected above is a good faith estimate of base pay for the primary location of the position. The salary for this position ultimately will be determined based on the education, experience, knowledge, and abilities of the successful candidate. In addition to salary, this role may also be eligible for annual, sales, or other incentive compensation.
