This position is with the District 3 Business Support.

Interviews are anticipated to be conducted within two (2) weeks of closing date.

Why does the job exist?

Position will assist the District Three management and staff to meet the goals, mandates and deadlines associated with the Finance Section. The Auditor & Accounting Supervisor will focus on supervising and supporting the work performed by the two Financial Specialists in the Accounting unit. The position is responsible for hiring staff, conducting annual performance reviews, recommending recognition, and disciplinary actions. This position will conduct job applicant interviews and recommend the selection of applicants in conjunction with training and development of personnel. The Accountant and Auditor Supervisor will continually verify and audit financial data; examining, analyzing, and interpreting budget and accounting records for the purpose of giving advice to management.

How does it get done?

- Supervising the work performed by the two Financial Specialists and as necessary training staff to confirm compliance with all DFA and NMDOT General Office Financial Control Division regulations. Reviewing leave requests, conducting annual performance evaluations, and recommending disciplinary actions as necessary. Interviewing job applicants, and recommending the selection of applicants to management.
- Overseeing the Accounts Payable system in Microsoft Outlook. Auditing work performed by staff, monitoring current procedures, designing systems and creating process improvements to assist management in operating more efficiently and effectively.
- Reviewing various systems such as FuelMaster, Veeder Root, Wright Express, and SHARE modules for inventory, accounts payable, and commitment control with the goal of simplifying processes and procedures, to allow the best use of the District's resources. involving data entry, streamlining, and creating spreadsheets.
- Completing budget analysis, examining and interpreting accounting information, reviewing work-arounds and solutions with management. Conducting follow-through and acting as a team leader to fully implement process improvements.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have experience in:

- Managing government budgets of at least $50 million
- At least 5 years of accounting experience and education to include general ledger entries
- Auditing and reconciling financial transactions
- Creating and manipulating spreadsheets using Excel PivotTables to review large amounts of data
- Delivering exemplary customer service

Minimum Qualification

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Auditing, or Business Administration and three (3) years directly related work experience in accounting, auditing, budgeting, preparing Comprehensive Annual Financial Reports, and conducting financial audits. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling seven (7) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Business/Personal Reference check and Driver's License verification are required, and employment is conditional pending results.

Working Conditions

Work is performed primarily in an office setting with occasionally working outdoors and with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Work extended hours and occasional travel may be required. Sitting/Standing, bending, squatting, climbing, reaching, kneeling and crawling for extended periods of time may be required.
