Position Overview

Accounting Manager

Location: Nashville, Tennessee
Employment Type: Full-Time, Exempt
Compensation: $95,000-$105,000 annually
Reports To: Controller

You'll play an important role in supporting the financial health and day-to-day accounting operations of an organization dedicated to serving the Middle Tennessee community.

In this role, you'll oversee key accounting functions including general ledger accounting, accounts receivable, accounts payable, month-end close, reconciliations, internal controls, financial reporting, and audit preparation. You'll also review the work of accounting team members and help ensure financial processes remain accurate, compliant, and well documented.

We're looking for someone who is analytical, detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable balancing multiple priorities. The ideal candidate brings strong accounting knowledge, sound judgment, and a collaborative approach to working with both internal and external partners.

What You'll Do

Accounting Operations
  • Maintain accurate accounting records for the organization
  • Oversee general ledger accounting, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and month-end close
  • Review and approve work batches completed by the Accountant and Accounts Payable Specialist
  • Maintain regular reconciliations of all balance sheet accounts
  • Research and resolve discrepancies identified through account reconciliations

Financial Controls & Compliance
  • Maintain accounting controls by following established policies and procedures
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local financial requirements
  • Ensure compliance with funder requirements
  • Help ensure internal control standards, processes, and documentation are consistently followed

Financial Reporting & Audits
  • Assist with the preparation of internal and external financial reports and projections
  • Support the annual independent audit
  • Assist with additional audits and site visits as needed
  • Help ensure financial information is accurate, complete, and appropriately documented

Team Support
  • Collaborate with accounting team members to support effective day-to-day financial operations
  • Serve as a backup for other team members as needed
  • Work effectively with internal and external stakeholders
  • Assist with additional responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting
  • Four years of professional accounting experience
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Experience with computerized financial record-keeping systems
  • Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills
  • Ability to exercise discretion, independent judgment, and initiative while working with confidential information
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Team-oriented with the ability to work effectively with internal and external customers
  • Valid Tennessee driver's license and automobile liability insurance

Preferred Qualifications
  • CPA license
  • Experience with MIP software
  • Experience with nonprofit business operations
  • Experience with grant management and fund accounting
