Position Description

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Accounting Manager leads the accounts payable and payroll functions within Corporate Accounting, supporting shared services across all Tellepsen entities. Manages and develops the accounts payable and payroll teams, oversees the daily operations of both functions, and is accountable for accurate, timely and well-controlled transaction processing in support of consolidated financial reporting.

RESPONSIBILITIES/EXPECTATIONS

  • Manage and oversee Accounts Payable and Payroll, including the AP Supervisor, the Payroll Supervisor and their teams.
  • Oversee the invoice lifecycle - intake, coding, approval routing, and payment execution through check runs and ACH cycles.
  • Administer the employee expense portal and corporate credit card program;
  • Oversee payroll processing and payroll close for all entities, including ACH release, 401(k) match, garnishments, and per diem and pay code administration.
  • Coordinate payroll tax deposits and filings, and the quarterly reconciliation of the payroll register to the general ledger and filed returns.
  • Deliver accounts payable and payroll close items, including accruals, credit card and Comdata activity, and the related account reconciliations.
  • Maintain segregation of duties, including the separation of vendor data maintenance from payment release.
  • Document current-state processes for both functions and establish written procedures, with a trained backup for each critical process.
  • Own and report the department's operating metrics for both functions, including invoice cycle time, approval queue aging, payroll review completion and control compliance.
  • Identify and implement process and automation improvements grounded in a documented current state and a defined problem.
  • Maintain liaison between Corporate Accounting, Operations Accounting, Project Teams, Human Resources and Information Technology.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performing accounting team.
  • Assist with and/or lead special projects aimed at enhancing the efficiency and accuracy of financial processes, systems, and workflows.

Position Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • 2 - 3 years prior management experience, including supervision of experienced staff or supervisors
  • Demonstrated end-to-end ownership of a transactional accounting cycle - accounts payable, payroll or comparable
  • Experience in a multi-entity environment with intercompany activity
  • 2 - 3 years public accounting experience preferred; Big 4 a plus
  • CPA certification preferred
  • Experience in Construction Accounting a plus; a working understanding of job cost coding, and construction specific processes can be developed on the job
  • Payroll experience across multiple entities or jurisdictions preferred
  • Expert proficiency in the use of technology software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Excel, Outlook, construction-specific ERP systems, etc.)
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of Viewpoint and pVault preferred
  • Demonstrated interest in automation and AI-assisted tools, with examples of work implemented rather than tools evaluated
  • Experience managing offshore or outsourced service teams a plus
  • Thorough knowledge of GAAP and of internal control principles, including segregation of duties
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, with experience collaborating across departments and presenting to senior leadership
