Full Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Controller, this position leads a team of Financial Analysts responsible for providing financial planning and analysis support to the various Westbank First Nation (WFN) Departments. This role requires the ability to lead a team and work closely with Departmental managers and senior staff to support the financial management needs of WFN Departments.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Member in good standing with CPA, holding a professional accounting designation
  • Degree from a recognized post-secondary institution, in Business or a related discipline
  • Specialized knowledge of Public Sector Accounting standards and requirements
  • 4 years of progressive financial leadership experience
  • Experience developing and managing budgets
  • Demonstrated relationship building/customer service skills
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to lead a small team
  • Experience working with First Nation communities/people considered an asset


REQUIREMENTS

  • Criminal Record and Credit Checks with results acceptable to WFN
  • Maintains a high level of confidentiality and uses discretion on all matters relating to the affairs of the Westbank First Nation


JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILTIES

  • Leading and developing the team to meet the needs of WFN Departments and WFN Government overall
  • Participates in the budget development and review process and ensures budget deadlines are met
  • Ensure necessary journal entries and reconciliations have been completed in a timely manner
  • Ensure an appropriate balance in workload amongst team members and ensure cross training amongst team members
  • Support continuous learning
  • Train new staff and ensure updated training manuals for all positions
  • Review the financial statements prepared for WFN Departments for accuracy and timeliness
  • Work collaboratively with the Accounting Manager, Operations on preparation of consolidated financial statements ensuring deadlines are met
  • Provides direction and oversight to a team of Financial Analysts on:
    • working collaboratively with WFN Departmental managers to develop annual budgets based on Departmental workplans and objectives, and prior year financial results
    • preparing Departmental financial statements on a monthly and quarterly basis, including reviewing financial transactions, performing reconciliations, and making necessary journal entries; meeting with department managers
    • responding to inquiries and concerns from WFN Departmental managers and senior staff on financial transactions and financial options for unbudgeted needs
  • Ensure additional information, and statistics (as required) are prepared for Chief and Council, WFN Departments, outside agencies, and regulatory bodies in a timely and accurate manner
  • Provide information as needed to support the work of external auditors
  • Coach and support team members for high performance
  • Set clear standards for quality and service, and lead by example
  • Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with Westbank First Nation policies, standards and procedures, and as directed by the Controller


KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Excellent analytical, organizational, time management, problem solving, and decision-making skills to effectively complete a variety of competing tasks and priorities
  • Strong interpersonal written and verbal communications skills
  • Extensive knowledge of accounting systems, and reporting tools as well as computerized accounting software
  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Excel in analyzing large data sets
  • Ability to complete work with a high degree of accuracy
  • Strategic/Critical thinker
  • Leadership skills appropriate to the position
  • Experience in developing high performing teams


The hiring range for this position is $96,911.03 to $116,293.23 annually.
