Accounting Manager needed in Tampa FL! This role is 5 days a week onsite.
Job Description
The Accounting Manager oversees all aspects of financial reporting and general accounting, along with selected human resources activities. This role develops and maintains accounting principles, practices, and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements, while supervising a team of three staff members and managing workload allocation. The position handles tight deadlines and a wide range of accounting activities, including account reconciliations, general ledger preparation, financial reporting, year-end audit preparation, and support for budgeting and forecasting. The Accounting Manager interacts regularly with senior-level leadership and business owners, requiring strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
Responsibilities
  • Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the organization's financial reporting processes and general ledger structure.
  • Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end close of the books.
  • Ensure the timely reporting of all monthly financial information to leadership.
  • Perform daily bank reconciliations and resolve discrepancies promptly.
  • Support budget development and forecasting activities by providing accurate financial data and analysis.
  • Collaborate with other department leaders to support overall department goals and objectives.
  • Monitor and analyze department work to develop more efficient procedures and optimize use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
  • Advise staff on handling non-routine reporting transactions and complex accounting issues.
  • Respond to inquiries from department managers regarding both human resources and accounting matters.
  • Work closely with the Vice President to ensure a clean and timely year-end audit.
  • Supervise the accounting team to ensure all financial reporting deadlines are consistently met.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of new procedures and system features to enhance departmental workflow.
  • Provide training and ongoing coaching to new and existing staff members as needed.
  • Handle personnel issues related to staff conflicts, absenteeism, performance concerns, and other employee relations matters.
  • Work with each direct report to establish annual goals and objectives, monitor progress, and provide guidance to support professional development.
  • Support the Vice President with special projects and workflow process improvements.

Essential Skills
  • Five to seven years of prior supervisory experience leading an accounting group.
  • Experience working for organizations with multiple locations.
  • Strong proficiency with PCs and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Hands-on experience with QuickBooks.
  • Strong experience with Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to perform ten-key by touch accurately and efficiently.
  • Solid knowledge of bank reconciliations, financial reporting and analysis, month-end and year-end closings, and general ledger accounting.
  • Proficiency in preparing and reviewing financial reports and accounting documentation.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, supervisory, and customer service skills.
  • Proven ability to multi-task, work under pressure, and meet tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to train, mentor, and develop accounting staff.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Accounting.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) credential preferred.
  • Experience in logistics or similar operational environments is beneficial.
  • Background in implementing new accounting procedures and workflow improvements.
  • Comfort working closely with senior leadership and business owners in a collaborative manner.

Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Tampa, FL.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $38.46 - $48.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
