Full Job Description
We are in search of an Accounting Analyst II to join our Controllers department in Spokane, Washington (Headquarters). This full-time position reports to the Director, Taxation and Reporting and is responsible for preparing accurate, high-quality accounting, tax, and regulatory reporting for the organization. The role applies technical knowledge to support moderately complex accounting and tax matters, assists with compliance with applicable federal and state tax laws and regulations, and helps identify opportunities to strengthen tax processes, controls, and reporting accuracy.

Compensation Information

The base salary range for this position in Spokane, Washington is:

Level II:
Typical starting range: $66,200 - $88,700
Full base salary range: $66,200 - $99,900
Annual performance-based incentive target is 10% of base.

*Relocation assistance will be provided to eligible candidates who must relocate to accept this position.

Essential Duties
  • Analyze general ledger activity, financial data, and tax-sensitive transactions to support accurate financial, tax, and regulatory reporting.
  • Prepare and/or review journal entries, account reconciliations, tax accruals, supporting schedules, tax calculations, estimated payments, return support, and related workpapers.
  • Research, interpret and apply federal, state and local tax requirements, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), income tax accounting guidance, and applicable regulatory standards.
  • Support and recommend improvements to controls, documentation, analytics, and review procedures that promote timely reporting, compliance with company policies, and adherence to applicable laws and regulations.
  • Assist with quarterly and annual reporting processes, including regulatory, tax, financial reporting, and compliance deliverables.
  • Identify accounting, tax, reporting, or process issues; research alternatives; recommend solutions; and implement approved process improvements.
  • Support accounting and tax system functionality, process design, testing, implementation activities, software upgrades, automation initiatives, and related work groups as assigned.
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders, external auditors, tax advisors, and other business partners to obtain information, resolve questions, and support audit, tax, and reporting requirements.
  • Communicate accounting, tax, reporting, and compliance information clearly to employees, management, and business stakeholders, as appropriate.
  • Support ad hoc projects, analyses, and other assigned responsibilities.
  • Perform all duties and maintain all standards in accordance with company policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Travel Requirements
  • AgWest employees may occasionally be asked to travel for all-staff or team meetings not included in the standard travel requirements for the role.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
  • Typically requires three to five years of related experience in public accounting, corporate accounting, tax, or a similar professional environment
  • Solid understanding of accounting principles, financial statement preparation, income tax accounting, and tax compliance concepts
  • Experience using general ledger systems, conducting GAAP and tax research, and preparing technical accounting or tax memoranda.
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local tax requirements, with the ability to research, interpret, and apply tax laws and regulations to business transactions and reporting requirements
  • Experience preparing or supporting tax calculations, tax provision workpapers, estimated tax payments, return support, tax account reconciliations, or related compliance schedules
  • Strong organizational skills, follow-through, accuracy, and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, adapt to shifting deadlines, and complete work timely
  • Ability to analyze financial and tax data, identify issues, and draw well-supported conclusions
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing

Preferred Qualifications
  • CPA licensure or candidacy
  • Public accounting experience
