About the role:
The Accountant position is responsible for supporting the Finance department with a focus on month-end and year-end closing processes, working papers, as well as external audits. The successful candidate will have strong accounting experience, working collaboratively within the Finance department, delivering consistent, accurate, and timely information while providing excellent customer service to all internal and external stakeholders.
What you'll be doing:
- Preparation of monthly, quarterly, and year-end journal entries
- Maintaining working papers and other reports to support the financial statements
- Performing Accounts Payable related activities and working with external AP Provider/Mohawk Medbuy
- Generate Accounts Receivable invoices and follow up for collection of payments
- Maintain funding reconciliation and deferred revenue schedules to track and record funding revenue from MOHLTC/CCO
- Support the interim and year-end audit by preparing working papers, answering auditor questions, and assisting with BPS submission
- Maintain assigned balance sheet accounts by forecasting reconciling accounts monthly, investigating any discrepancies, and preparing any adjusting journal entries to ensure accuracy
- Assist in developing internal accounting controls, and policies and procedures for accounting functions
- Liaise and prepare remittance/compliance reporting documents (taxes, banking, etc.)
- Maintains confidentiality of client and corporate information and discusses same only with appropriate Southlake personnel
- Assist in the maintenance of Southlake's chart of accounts
- Ensure information flowed to Southlake's internal financial reporting tool is complete and accurate
What you bring:
• Bachelor's degree in Business or relevant program of study
• CPA preferred
• Minimum 3 years of recent experience in full-cycle accounting
• Advanced proficiency with MS Office products, especially MS Excel
• Proficiency on MIS/OHRS guidelines, Public Sector Accounting Standards and Canadian GAAP
• Demonstrated knowledge of Financial software applications (i.e. Meditech, QuickBooks)
• Previous healthcare experience is an asset
• Ability to promote and manage change
