PERMANENT FULL-TIME POSITION IN NORTH VANCOUVER

The Squamish Nation is seeking a motivated and analytical Accountant to join the Estxwáyusem Finance Department within Xetxítayus Ch'áwch'aw Corporate Services.

Reporting to the Manager, Accounting, the Accountant plays a key role in supporting the Nation's financial operations and maintaining the integrity of financial records. This position contributes to the full accounting cycle, including transaction processing, reconciliations, month-end and year-end activities, compliance reporting, financial analysis, and audit preparation.

What You'll Do
  • Support monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting cycles to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Post and review transactions within the general ledger.
  • Complete bank account and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Support accounts receivable processes including invoicing, deposits, and collections.
  • Maintain the integrity of the general ledger through account analysis, reconciliations, and chart of accounts reviews.
  • Prepare journal entries and support month-end and year-end close activities.
  • Assist with the preparation of audit working papers and documentation for external auditors.
  • Support tax filings, compliance reporting, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct financial analysis to support strategic decision-making and operational planning.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives and help strengthen internal controls.
  • Build positive working relationships with departments across the organization and provide financial guidance and support.
  • Participate in professional development activities and continue progression toward CPA designation.

What We're Looking For
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Commerce, Accounting, or a related field.
  • Current enrollment in the CPA Professional Education Program (PEP), with proof of enrollment required.
  • Minimum 2 to 3 years of experience in full-cycle accounting, including reconciliations and month-end close processes.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office 365, particularly Excel.
  • Experience working with large-scale computerized accounting systems; JD Edwards experience is considered an asset.
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge and commitment to professional growth.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to explain financial information clearly to a variety of stakeholders.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Strong relationship-building skills and ability to work collaboratively across departments.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Skwxwú7mesh Úxwumixw history, culture, customs, land, and people is considered an asset.

Salary: $66,689 - $93,364
