Position Summary This position is at the full performance level professional class operating under the general supervision of the Insurance Program Manager of the Injured Patients and Families Compensation Fund (Fund). This position functions as the sole accountant for the Fund with the primary responsibility of the position to provide financial management and lead accounting services for the Fund. The position is responsible for the development and maintenance of the Fund's automated accounting system; maintenance of accounts within the automated financial system; preparation of statutory financial statements; reconciliation of independent accounting systems with the state accounting system; interpretation of existing federal, state, statutory and GAAP rules and regulations and implementation of any required changes in accounting practices and procedures. The accountant collects data and participates in the development of the Biennial budget. The accountant is responsible for budgets and accounting systems for three (3) separate appropriations. The duties include full accrual accounting for the Fund; recording and reconciling accounts relating to the Fund fee billings and collections, accounts receivable, management of Fund assets, investment earnings, administrative expenses, loss payments, and outstanding loss reserve liabilities, in addition to other administrative accounting and expenditure items. This position serves as a liaison and contact person for the Board of Governors, contractors, consultants, and other interested parties on matters relating to the Fund's financial records and operations. The position is responsible for preparation of quarterly and annual statements and reports for the Fund and performs GAAP conversion and other services, as required, to conform with reporting requirements imposed by the DOA/State Comptroller's Office. Salary Information Starting salary for the Accountant Journey will be between
$34.00 - $46.59 per hour, plus excellent benefits . In addition, up to $1.00 per hour CPA add-on may be available depending on qualifications. This classification is assigned to pay schedule/range 07-03. A 12-month probationary period may be required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan.

Qualified candidates will have education, training, or experience related to all of the following:- Minimum qualification standard: A bachelor's degree or higher in accounting or auditing from an accredited institution or commensurate professional experience in accounting and/or auditing.
- Utilizing spreadsheets and databases (such as Microsoft Office Excel or similar)
- General accounting duties (e.g. financial statement preparation, reconciliations, general ledger journal vouchers, auditing, or similar)
- Using financial systems and/or finance-related platforms.
- Reading, interpreting, and/or applying policy and procedures, related to financial or accounting processes.
Well qualified applicants will have one or more of the following:- Master's degree in accounting or a Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
- Education, training, or experience with insurance regulatory requirements, including those from entities like the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC)
- Education, training, or experience with a basic understanding of actuarial principles, such as risk assessment and reserve calculations.
