Distinguishing Factors:The Accountant IV classification is the highest level class in the accountant series. Work assignments are of the highest complexity and require substantial independent judgment. The Accountant IV has direct supervisory responsibilities and assists the Department Controller in leading the accounting unit.Essential Functions:To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform assigned essential functions listed below satisfactorily. May oversee the accounting unit in the absence of the Department Controller.
Assists the Department Controller with analyzing financial reports, preparing fiscal year-end exhibits, reconciling accounts, developing training material, teaching classes, and writing fiscal rules.
Prepares, reviews, and/or approves accounting transactions in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) pronouncements, Judicial Branch Fiscal Rules, statutory requirements, and other authoritative guidance. Such transactions may include, but are not limited to, disbursement of funds, receipt and deposit of funds, journal entries, and intra-governmental transfers.
Reviews and identifies accounting procedures and processes that need to be improved; researches appropriate resolutions; and provides recommendations to the Department Controller.
Analyzes data and prepares various financial reports.
Supervises staff as directed by the Department Controller. Plans, schedules, coordinate, and assign work and establish goals and priorities for subordinate employees.
Conducts evaluations and appraisals of employees in the accounting unit as directed by the Department Controller.
Attends meetings and trainings as required.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Additional Comments:This position will oversee the general accounting team.Supervisor Responsibilities:Responsible for one's own work product and work performed within the accounting unit. Provides direct supervision, guidance, and assistance to others. Plans, directs and coordinates activities for the accounting unit. Duties include scheduling and assigning of work, training in all facets of work, quality control, and decisions impacting the pay, status and tenure of others. Conducts performance appraisals, and provides input into and participates in discipline, dismissal, and hiring processes.
Physical Demands:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to perform repetitive motions, and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment:The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. May handle emergency or crisis situations; is subject to many interruptions; may handle multiple calls and inquiries simultaneously.
Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights Education and Experience Equivalency:Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in accounting or closely related field, such as finance, and five years of professional accounting experience.
