Job Summary The Accountant - International will support accounting functions for Murphy's exploration and development operations outside of the US and Canada. This role will build strong SAP proficiency and work experience with Production Sharing Contracts (PSC) and Joint Operating Agreements (JOA). The position serves as the primary accounting contact for our Mexico and Brazil assets and will assist in the developing Côte d'Ivoire business. This role provides opportunities to work on partner audits, cross-functional collaborations on process efficiencies, and accounting configurations for new country entries. The position reports to the Senior Manager, International Accounting, within Murphy's Operations Accounting organization.
This role is based in our Houston Corporate office with remote work available (2) days a week as business needs allow. May offer rare travel opportunities.
ResponsibilitiesTechnical Accounting- Work on periodic expense reclass requests, primarily intercompany nature, from global exploration support functions
- Compile and analyze monthly cost/spending reports for Côte d'Ivoire and Mexico requirements
- Generate monthly intercompany invoices for audit documentation purposes
- Perform multi-currency bank reconciliations
- Manage Mexico and Brazil invoice coding and approval processes. Ensure timely payments
- Prepare non-operated joint interest bill journals
Partner, Vendor & Stakeholder Relations- Manage interactions with partners, vendors, and local accounting providers for Mexico and Brazil ventures
- Facilitate the cash call and cutback processes to partners
- Provide financial guidance on matters that should be governed by Production Sharing Contracts (PSC) and the Accounting Procedures within
- Support partner audits, government audits (costs, taxes, and local contents), and financial audits as allowed by the terms of applicable contracts and laws
Cross Functional Collaboration & Process Improvement- Work with Tax team, and Mexico local accounting firms to ensure accurate refiling for VAT refunds. Evaluate VAT refund learnings that could be applied to other countries
- Collaborate with Exploration Business Process group and record management vendor to find improvements in the international intercompany invoicing process
- Encourage to consider automation opportunities and support special projects assigned by the manager
Qualifications/Requirements - Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business analytics, or other relevant discipline
- Minimum of 5 years' work experience in accounting or finance
- Self-motivated with the ability to take initiative and operate with appropriate urgency
- Aptitude to learn fast and work in ambiguous environments
- Solid communication, relationship building, and problem-solving skills
- Strong foundation in GAAP

Desired/Preferred Qualifications - Fluent in Spanish, strongly preferred
- Worked preferably in cost, joint venture or international accounting
- Knowledge in IFRS and cash basis accounting
- Experience with SAP, Hyperion, Power BI, or Spotfire
- Portuguese
