Responsibilities

  • Evaluate customer provided CAD against source documentation for completeness.
  • Modify CAD assets to facilitate animation processes.
  • Generate 3D CAD assets from 2D customer drawings and reference materials.
  • Create simple 3D CAD models from physical products through reverse engineering.
  • Assess assembly processes to identify potential complications for end users.
  • Coordinate and communicate effectively with other departments and customers on a regular basis.
  • Manage multiple complex projects from inception to completion within tight deadlines.

Job Title: CAD Designer
Department: 3D Instruction Engineering Department
Location: BILT - Global Brand Support Center, Grapevine, Texas 76051
Pay Range: Competitive based off experience.
Duration: Perm Hire
About the Job
BILT is seeking CAD Designer 3 for the CAD Operations Team. This individual will be a SolidWorks professional, be initiative-taking, have a strong work ethic, positive attitude, communicate effectively, give, and take direction well.
Qualifications
  • Must be a US Citizen
  • Must be able to travel to onsite visits given 2 weeks' notice.
  • Must be able to get up to speed on BILT best practices within the first week and hit the ground running.
  • Must have 6-10 years of professional experience working in a design for manufacturing environment.
  • Must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited 2-4-year university or college is desirable in Engineering, or Industrial Design; will consider other education or relevant experience in lieu of formal degree.
  • Must have in depth experience working with multiple different materials and there manufacturing methods (i.e., wood, plastic, sheet metal)
  • Proficient working on multiple projects with multiple complex tasks from start to finish with tight deadlines.
  • Strong technical capacity with the ability to read and understand manuals and technical documentation.
  • Must understand the difference between parametric modeling and mesh modeling.
  • Experience working in corporate, professional install, or industrial products is a plus.
  • Previous experience with industrial design or engineering consultancy is a plus.
  • Experience interfacing with customers is a plus.
  • Experience interfacing with other departments (outside of design/engineering) in an organization on a regular basis is a plus.
  • Extremely detail oriented.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently.

  • Be able to evaluate completeness of customer provided CAD in relation to source documentation. Example assembly instructions
  • Modify CAD assets to facilitate the animation process such as separating joined components.
  • Generate 3D CAD assets from customer provided 2D CAD drawings or other customer provided reference materials.
  • Generate simple 3D CAD assets from customer provided products (reverse engineering) and perform simple mesh modeling tasks. Examples include flat pack furniture and smooth faced pillows.
  • Experience with different types of materials and how they are manufactured.
  • Evaluate the assembly process and highlight any potential complications the end user might experience during the assembly process.


Skills
  • Expert with SolidWorks 3D Modeling Program, solid and surface modeling, FEA is not necessary.
  • Must have a background of using other 3D file types that are not native to SolidWorks.
  • Must understand the different configurations upon import part/solid/surface, part/body modeling, and assembly/part.
  • Proficient with Windows based OS
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud is a plus.


Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, tablets, phones, photocopiers, email, and various communication programs (Zoom, MS Teams, etc.)
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a contractor to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job requires the employee to lift at least 1lb to 50lb products and move them around the office to be inspected, measured, and 3D modeled.
