Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

The Shift Supervisor is responsible for directing and coordinating all manufacturing activities within the Machine Shop and Heat Treat departments during assigned shift operations. This position provides leadership and oversight for production, safety, quality, employee relations, equipment utilization, maintenance coordination, and continuous improvement initiatives. The Shift Supervisor ensures production schedules are achieved, quality requirements are met, resources are effectively utilized, and all company policies and procedures are followed.

The Shift Supervisor serves as the primary manufacturing leader during assigned shift operations and is responsible for supporting operational performance through effective employee engagement, problem solving, and departmental coordination.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Operations Management
  • Direct and coordinate all shift activities within the Machine Shop and Heat Treat departments.
  • Ensure production output and customer specifications are achieved.
  • Monitor daily production performance and adjust resources to meet operational objectives.
  • Coordinate workflow between Machine Shop, Heat Treat, Maintenance, Quality, Engineering, and Production departments.
  • Prioritize and manage production demands while minimizing downtime and operational disruptions.
  • Lead and support continuous improvement initiatives focused on Safety, Product Quality, Productivity, Cost Reduction, and other Process improvements:

Machine Shop and Heat Treat Responsibilities
  • Oversee all CNC machining, die maintenance and re-sink, grinding, and daily Heat Treat operations to ensure compliance with process specifications and customer requirements.
  • Ensure machine utilization and productivity targets are achieved.
  • Monitor furnace operations, scheduling, loading practices, and process controls.Ensure Heat Treat records, documentation, and traceability requirements are maintained.
  • Coordinate with Engineering and Quality on process improvements and corrective actions.
  • Provide technical support for CNC equipment and machining processes.
  • Troubleshoot and implement programming modifications as required to improve process efficiency.
  • Ensure tooling and production resources are available to meet production requirements.

Leadership and Employee Development
  • Supervise, coach, train, and develop hourly employees.
  • Establish work assignments and staffing schedules to support production requirements.
  • Monitor employee performance and provide ongoing feedback.
  • Conduct disciplinary actions in accordance with company policies.
  • Promote teamwork, accountability, engagement, and continuous improvement.
  • Support cross-training initiatives to improve workforce flexibility.

Safety and Environmental Compliance
  • Promote and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct safety observations and accident investigations as required.
  • Ensure all required PPE is utilized appropriately.
  • Identify and address unsafe conditions and behaviors.

Quality Management
  • Ensure manufacturing processes are controlled and capable of producing products that meet quality requirements.
  • Support departmental quality audits and quality management systems.
  • Implement corrective and preventive actions for operational non-conformances.
  • Lead root cause investigations and problem-solving activities.
  • Monitor and improve quality performance metrics.

Maintenance Coordination
  • Coordinate maintenance activities during assigned shift operations.
  • Escalate equipment reliability issues and support corrective actions.
  • Work with Maintenance personnel to minimize downtime and maximize equipment availability.

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Education
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Technical degree or manufacturing-related certification preferred.

Experience
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in a CNC machine shop manufacturing environment.
  • Previous supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Experience with Heat Treat operations preferred.
  • Experience leading continuous improvement initiatives preferred.

Technical Knowledge
  • Complete understanding of machine shop operations.
  • Working knowledge of Heat Treat processes and related equipment.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and work instructions.
  • Ability to implement and troubleshoot G-Code and M-Code programming preferred
  • Proficiency with Mastercam, CCM, and related manufacturing software preferred

The range of pay for this role is $90000 to $115,000 US Dollar (USD) Salaried based on a variety of factors. This role is eligible to participate in the Company's Quarterly Cash Bonus Plan, paid out at the quarterly bonus factor of 2X the Company's bonus multiple, based on the Company's performance in the applicable quarter. Employees will receive 120 hours paid time off every year. Employees will also receive 10 paid holidays. Employees (and their families) are eligible to participate in the company's medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance. Employees are eligible to enroll in the Company's 401(k) plan. The final pay offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and years of experience within the job, the type of years and experience within the industry, education, etc.

This position requires use of information or access to production processes subject to national security controls under U.S. export control laws and regulations (including, but not limited to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and the Export Administration Regulations (EAR)). To comply with those regulations, this position may require applicants to be U.S. Persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, U.S. lawful permanent residents, protected individuals as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)), or eligible to obtain the required export authorizations from the U.S. Department of State or the U.S. Department of Commerce.
