POSITION TITLE: 2ND CLASS SHIFT ENGINEER - RELIEF
DEPARTMENT: FACILITY SERVICES - ENERGY CONVERSION CENTRE (E.C.C.)
RATE OF PAY: AS PER SCHEDULE 'A" - UNIFOR 2458 ENGINEERS, COLLECTIVE AGREEMENT - $39.56 - $46.54 / hour
HOURS OF WORK: 40 HOURS PER WEEK; SHIFT WORK REQUIRED

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY:
Reporting to the Chief Operating Engineer and/or their Designate, the 2nd Class Shift Engineer Relief is primarily responsible for covering vacancies (ie: sick, vacations and other leaves of absence) for existing 3rd Class Assistant Engineers. This position is accountable for operating and maintaining the E.C.C safely and efficiently in accordance with T.S.S.A and the respective Regulations and Standards. When operating they are to provide directions to the Assistant Engineers for all tasks and duties required during the shift to maintain safe operations and provide training when required. They are to monitor and operate all campus equipment utilizing the DDC and BMS systems.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
1. Backfill for the 2nd Class Shift Engineer for any type of lost time on all shifts.
2. Assigned to the maintenance mechanic group to support ongoing maintenance activities. This includes activities on campus including ECC.
3. Operate and maintain the E.C.C equipment safely and efficiently in accordance with T.S.S.A and the respective Regulations and Standards.
4. Perform water tests and adjust chemical feed rates and blow down rates.
5. Keep plant log as required.
6. Monitor and operate all campus equipment under the jurisdiction of the E.C.C through the BMS and DDC systems.
7. Direct the 3rd Class Assistant Engineer; assign work orders and trouble calls after 4:30pm.
8. Act as departmental communications centre by reporting operational and maintenance issues to appropriate staff.
9. Provide direction to E.C.C staff, campus maintenance staff, campus police, contractors and suppliers when required.
10. Order plant supplies.
11. Perform maintenance and repair tasks on all campus equipment as directed by the Chief Operating Engineer.
12. Perform housekeeping duties as directed.
13. Act as the Chief Operating Engineer in the absence of the Chief Operating Engineer and the Lead Hand/Assistant Chief Operating Engineer.
14. Other duties as assigned by the Chief Operating Engineer
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
The successful candidate will have:
• Ontario Secondary School diploma
• Valid Second-Class Operating Engineers Certificate, certified by the Province of Ontario
• Minimum of three (3) years' experience with:
o Maintenance
o Power plant operations of a similar size and type
o Water chemical treatments
o Campus HVAC and services distribution systems
o DDC and BMS control systems
o High pressure centrifugal & absorption chiller operation
o Gas turbine operation
