ROLEThe Clinical Education and Preceptor Coordinator leads the design, coordination, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of the IHLP Clinical Education and Preceptorship Program. The role develops standardized learning resources, training programs, competency-based tools, clinical scenarios, and the educational materials to support consistent, high-quality clinical education across the IHLP region.
A key responsibility is supporting site-based preceptors and laboratory teams by identifying learner needs, developing educational strategies and resources, providing guidance, and promoting consistency in student education and competency development across participating laboratories. The Coordinator also provides targeted educational support to MLT students and contributes to initiatives that support recruitment, retention, and regional workforce development.
The Coordinator also supports the administration and monitoring of the MLPAO-funded Clinical Preceptor Pilot Program, including coordinating project activities, tracking outcomes and metrics, maintaining required documentation, evaluating program effectiveness, and supporting reporting requirements. The role works collaboratively with IHLP leadership, participating sites, educational institutions, preceptors, and MLPAO to ensure program milestones, deliverables, and workforce development objectives are achieved.
REQUIRED EDUCATION & CERTIFICATION(S)
- Graduate of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology program
- Valid Ontario driver's license and access to a personal motor vehicle for travel within the IHLP
REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE(S)
- 5-7 years progressive experience as a Medical Laboratory Technologist in a hospital setting
- Demonstrated leadership and team building skills
- Demonstrated ability to instruct, train, mentor, coach and support staff, preceptors and MLT students
- Demonstrated ability to design, develop, implement, and evaluate educational programs, learning resources, and competency-based education tools
- Demonstrated skills in the areas of quality improvement, change and program management
- Demonstrated planning, organizational project coordination and time management skills
- Demonstrated working knowledge of the scope of practice, processes, and tasks performed by laboratory staff
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to effectively manage competing demands, multiple priorities, and regional program responsibilities
DESIRED SKILLS, EXPERIENCE(S) & EDUCATION
- Registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO) preferred
- BSc and/or Advanced Certification (ART) in General Laboratory with the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Sciences preferred
- Demonstrated experience coordinating, delivering, or supporting education, training, orientation, competency assessment, or professional development initiatives preferred
- Previous experience serving as a student preceptor or other relevant teaching experience preferred
- Experience developing educational resources, learning materials, competency tools, or training programs preferred.
