Job Goal:The Somerville Community Schools After School Program provides after school and out of school time care at the all elementary schools for Somerville Public Schools. After School programs open Monday -Friday from dismissal until 5:30 including early release days and offers full day programs during school vacation weeks and the summer. The Out of School Time Director supervises and coordinates programming at the school level for the Community Schools Program and District Sponsored programming within in one specific school.
SPECIAL EDUCATION EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITIONResponsibilities:School Year Responsibilities: (Months of September -June) - Supervise After School staff including observing enrichment activities and staff attendance and performance
- Facilitate on-site weekly staff meetings
- Ensure teachers are following all program homework and project-based activity guidelines
- Initial enrollment of students and placement to activity club and homework clubs
- Implement Community Schools Behavior Management Policy
- Maintain classroom environment including set up and maintenance of supplies
- Follow program health and safety procedures
- Build positive relationship with families and community
- Attend regularly scheduled meetings with OST Administration and School Principal
- Attend orientation, meetings and trainings; including but not limited to mandatory DESE trainings
- Collect and report data for evaluation tools
- Submit all paperwork including timesheets and requisitions to main office in a timely manner
- Maintain site budget
- Other duties as assigned
Summer Months Responsibilities: (Months of July and August) Teaching
- Lead small and large group activities in a specialized area (Camp Specials include: Drama, Art, Science, Tech, Engineering and Math, ELA, Cultures, PE)
- Maintain classroom environment including set up and maintenance of supplies
- Ability to cooperatively team teach
- Other duties as assigned
Programming
- Research, plan and implement activity based curriculum to promote social, emotional, physical and cognitive development in accordance with Somerville Public School curriculum and summer camp themes
- Purchase materials and supplies in accordance with Community Schools and OST procedures
- Submit weekly themed units 2 weeks in advance to Administration
Staff
- Communicate regularly with Administration
- Attend summer camp orientation, weekly lunch time Wednesday meetings and trainings
- Facilitate Lead and Assistant Teachers to participate during lessons
- Oversee field trip arrival and departure procedures and staff supervision while off site
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications: - Have a Bachelor's Degree or a Master's Degree relevant to an OST Program is preferred; and have a minimum of one year experience in teaching and/or administration in the field of community school education or related field
- Ability to supervise and support a team of up to ten staff members and additional community partners
- Administrative and organizational skills
- Ability to multitask and coordinate daily activities including student attendance, tuition collection and management and parent communication
- Good interpersonal skills and communication skills to collaborate with school day teachers, OST staff and Administration
- Facilitate program planning to ensure educational frameworks are embedded into enrichment activities
- Sensitivity to and/or experience in working with children and adults from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds
