General Information POSITION SUMMARY Assist the Executive Director in the Office of Specialized Services in the development and management of its programs. Provide leadership for special education programs, including dispute resolution and due process compliance to ensure students have equitable access to specialized instruction in the least restrictive environment. Provide leadership in developing and monitoring program goals and addressing disproportionality and systemic bias.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP Reports to the Executive Director in the Office of Specialized Services
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS- Master's degree in school administration, special education, or a related field
- School administrator license issued by PELSB (Director of Special Education)
- Special education license issued by PELSB
- Three years of teaching experience, in special education or a related field
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS- Extensive knowledge and experience with special education due process compliance and dispute resolution, special education programming and specialized instruction.
- Experience in supervision of a continuum of special education programs and associated staff.
- Experience collaborating with building administrators, district leadership and collective bargaining units.
- Extensive experience developing and delivering Professional Development to different stakeholder groups such as non-licensed staff, licensed staff, and administration.
- Working knowledge of developing staffing budgets for special education programs.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES- Considerable knowledge and experience working with theories, practices, developments and innovations of special education programming.
- Considerable knowledge of special education programs and services from Birth to 21 in a large, urban school district.
- Considerable knowledge of laws and regulations affecting special education programs.
- Considerable experience in interacting effectively with students, staff, parents and agencies representing cultural and linguistic diversity.
- Considerable ability to manage cross-departmental teams to work effectively and collaboratively.
- Considerable ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Considerable knowledge of budget management and prioritizing program needs.
- Working knowledge of school district programs, policies and operations.
RESPONSIBILITIES The essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following fundamental duties:
- Provide supervision and leadership for program staff including department staff, special education teacher teams and staff
- Provide leadership in curriculum development and monitor implementation of special education services through data collection around the progress of special education programs and make recommendations to the Executive Director. .
- Work collaboratively with school administrators and their leadership team on the schoolwide comprehensive improvement planning process (SCIP).
- Work collaboratively with other District departments to ensure special education supports are included and implemented to increase special education student access to curricular and extracurricular opportunities.
- Provide leadership in developing or recommending staff development activities focused on improvement of instruction and action regarding special education teacher effectiveness.
- Research programs and recommend resources to support special education students
- Work collaboratively to advocate for equity and access to a rigorous education for special education students
- Assist in staff formal evaluations, giving feedback, and coaching on areas of improvement.
- Assist the Executive Director in the development and monitoring the program budget according to the vision of the special education department
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
PAY, BENEFITS & WORK SCHEDULEThis is a 12 month position working 40 hours per week.
Pay range for this position is: $100,334 - $1466,049
Maximum hiring step = Step Eleven (11)
