Division: Clinical Services

Reports to: Director of Chronic Disease Prevention & Wellness, Diabetes Education and Clinical Nutrition

Status: Permanent Full-time

Eligible for WAHA Sign-on Bonus (up to $15,000), Employee Referral Bonus (up to $5,500) & Retention Program

Weeneebayko Area Health Authority (WAHA) is seeking an experience candidate to fill the key role of Diabetes Nurse Educator.

Who You Are

  • Experienced registered nurse
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a multidisciplinary team
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Extensive knowledge in nursing role and enhances scope


What You'll Do

  • Individual diabetes education sessions with patients
  • Teach patients how to monitor blood glucose and educate on blood glucose targets
  • Educate patients on medication management and insulin regimens
  • Provide guidance on nutrition and physical activity
  • Educate patients and families on diabetes prevention, self-management and complications
  • Participate in community outreach and education initiatives
  • Willingness to travel to coastal sites on a travel schedule


What You Bring

  • Diploma in Nursing, BScN preferred
  • Current registration and in good standing with College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Mandatory Certified Diabetes Educator certification or willingness to obtain within 2 years of hire
  • Minimum 2 years' experience working in diabetes education or clinical care/chronic disease prevention
  • Mandatory certification in CPR
  • Reliable, cooperative and effective interpersonal relationships
  • Ability to communicate in the local native Cree language is an asset


Salary: $89,797.50 - $128,700.00
