ROLE: Sr. Director/ VP Clinical Development

We are seeking an energetic, strategic, and hands-on leader for the role of VP, Clinical Development. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in oncology drug development, demonstrated ability to drive strategy, and an appetite for active problem-solving in clinical trial execution. As the VP of Clinical Development, you will oversee a key clinical development program, working closely with cross-functional leaders to ensure the successful design, execution, and interpretation of clinical trials.

The position reports to the SVP of Clinical Development and will supervise clinical scientists, study physicians, and CRO staff, as applicable. You will lead the clinical development team and take a hands-on approach to developing and implementing clinical strategies.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Leadership: Take full ownership of the clinical development strategy for assigned programs, including identifying and prioritizing indications and therapeutic combinations, and ensuring alignment with corporate goals. Actively drive the strategic direction of the clinical development plan, collaborating closely with project heads and functional leaders to create a roadmap that advances the program from early development to regulatory submission.
Clinical Development Plan (CDP): Lead the creation and ongoing refinement of a comprehensive CDP. Ensure that the plan reflects a proactive, data-driven approach that aligns with regulatory and commercial objectives while anticipating risks and obstacles.
Protocol Development & Study Design: Develop and drive the execution of clinical study protocols that align with strategic objectives. Lead cross-functional collaboration with biostatistics, clinical operations, data management, and regulatory to ensure protocols are executable, efficient, and scientifically rigorous.
Data Review & Interpretation: Actively participate in the review, analysis, and interpretation of emerging clinical data to provide clear insights into program efficacy, safety, and patient outcomes. Lead the effort to ensure that data-driven decisions are made promptly and communicated effectively to stakeholders.
Medical Monitoring & Oversight: As the Clinical Development Lead and/or Medical Monitor, take direct responsibility for overseeing patient safety, study integrity, and the quality of data collection. Ensure proactive identification and mitigation of risks that may arise during study conduct. Collaborate closely with medical monitors to maintain continuous vigilance over the safety profile of investigational agents.
Cross-functional Collaboration: Engage in continuous and active collaboration with key functional partners, including regulatory affairs, translational medicine, clinical pharmacology, and clinical operations, to ensure alignment on clinical trial design, execution, and regulatory submissions. Work closely with the commercial and market access teams to ensure clinical development programs are aligned with future market needs and health authority requirements.
Regulatory & Medical Affairs Support: Lead or contribute to the creation of high-quality clinical sections for regulatory submissions, including INDs, investigator brochures, clinical study reports, and other key documentation. Stay informed about evolving regulatory expectations and trends to guide program strategy and execution.
Team & Project Leadership: Lead and inspire cross-functional clinical development teams to ensure optimal program execution. Facilitate clear communication and decision-making across departments and ensure alignment with the overall program strategy.
Mentorship & Team Development: Actively coach and support direct reports and other team members, promoting their development through regular feedback, clear goal setting, and professional development opportunities. Build a high-performing team capable of executing on complex clinical programs with agility and focus.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

Medical Degree with post-graduate training and patient care experience in oncology, immuno-oncology, or a related therapeutic area.
5+ years of oncology drug development experience in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry, with a focus on immune-oncology therapeutics.
Proven experience managing and mentoring clinical development teams, with a focus on empowering team members to take ownership and drive clinical programs forward.
Demonstrated ability to lead the design, conduct, and interpretation of clinical trials, from early-stage development through regulatory submission.
Strong understanding of clinical trial design, data review processes, and the integration of cross-functional input to optimize trial execution.
Experience in working closely with regulatory authorities and managing submissions for INDs and related global regulatory documentation (e.g., US FDA and EU EMA).
Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to manage and influence across all levels of the organization.
Fluency in English (both written and oral) and ability to travel (~20%).
