The opportunity

As a member of the Software Engineering team, you will be working in a collaborative, dynamic, and creative environment at HBP. We are looking for a Frontend Engineer to join our high performing engineering team that focuses on our award winning and industry leading media and learning products. You will work on an agile, outcomes-driven team and act as a trusted partner to product and project managers. Reporting to the Director of Frontend Engineering, you will be developing world-class software that helps hundreds of thousands of learners improve their work life every day.

What you'll do

• Develop high-quality software design and architecture

• Identify, prioritize, and execute tasks in the software development life cycle

• Develop tools and applications by producing clean, efficient code

• Comfortable working cross-functionally to drive impact across the SDLC, including working with product managers to clarify requirements and break down work, reviewing code written by others, assisting with design for testability, and using data to drive decisions

• Contribute to the software engineering body of knowledge

• Ensure software is up to date with the latest technologies

• Collaborate with other internal engineering teams in solution design, development, and troubleshooting

• Design innovative approaches that allow users to achieve their learning goals differently

• Recommend and implement content delivery solutions to support teaching and learning across our applications

• Understanding of internet-based media distribution solutions, video streaming standards and interactive media formats

• Investigate and disseminate information on best practices and trends in education technology, including software, hardware, mobile devices, etc.

What you’ll bring

• 2+ years of proven experience as a Software Engineer, preferably within the media and EdTech space

• Experience building applications that conform to high standards for security and data privacy

• Experience with:

o Writing cross-browser HTML, CSS, and JavaScript

o JavaScript frameworks/libraries (React, Angular, Vue.js)

o Writing unit tests (Jest, React Testing Library)

o CSS preprocessors (Sass, Less)

o Developing accessible and responsive web pages

o Newer specifications of ECMAScript

o Front-end tooling (Webpack, Babel, ESLint, NPM)

o Version control systems like Git

o working with RESTful APIs

• Good understanding of the software development lifecycle

• Analytical mind with problem-solving aptitude

• Ability to work independently

• Excellent organizational and communication skills

• BSc/BA in Computer Science or relevant work experience

• Ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization

You’ll stand out if you have

• Experience developing applications on AWS cloud and good knowledge of various AWS services (e.g., Cloudfront, Lambda@Edge, S3, Fargate/ECS/ECR)

• Advanced skills developing complex web applications using React and Next.js

• Working knowledge of containerization technologies (e.g., Docker) and CI/CD pipelines

$110,00 - 120,00

Above is the annualized pay range for this position. In addition, this position includes the opportunity to earn our annual Performance Based Variable Pay Program. Actual salary will be set based upon a range of factors, including external benchmark market data, individual knowledge, skills, experience, location and internal equity.
