ABOUT THE ROLE

We’re now looking for a Talent & People Partner to join our People Team as our first team hire in San Francisco, alongside our Senior Talent & People Partner in the UK!

Reporting to the Director of Operations (UK-based) as our sole team member in the US, you'll have a hands-on opportunity to build and support the employee experience at one of the world’s most exciting scale-up nonprofits. You'll be responsible for a variety of generalist HR duties, maintaining our global organizational culture, developing and implementing People Ops projects, managing full candidate lifecycles and managing of our San Francisco office. Your work will take our well-established people processes and improve them to help our teams do their best work, while providing on-the-ground pastoral support and coaching to our team members based in San Francisco and elsewhere in the US. This is an exciting opportunity for a self-starting, hands-on HR generalist to add real impact to the world while developing their skills within people operations.

For context, we currently have 11 staff in San Francisco/on the West Coast and a further 8 on the East Coast.

Your responsibilities will include:

Owning existing People/HR processes such as international payroll, performance assessment, employee contracts, international employee handbooks, employee relations and ensuring HR compliance with US employment law. You’ll be the point of contact for employee questions on any of these processes.
Supporting our Senior Talent & People Partner with recruitment. You'll manage the end-to-end candidate lifecycle across a number of our roles, including screening resumes, holding initial interviews, scheduling interviews for hiring managers and stewarding candidates through their individual recruitment process.
Managing people projects. A big focus for us this year is embedding high performance in our teams. You’ll play an integral role in helping to decide how we do this, then implementing new processes/procedures.
Providing pastoral support for our US-based staff, helping and coaching them through effective working challenges, in particular in the context of working in a distributed team, and escalating where necessary.
Bringing our culture to life in San Francisco, e.g. by building a great office environment for those who use it, with plenty of ‘surprise and delight’ moments.
Supporting the team to embed DEI and build an inclusive culture across all aspects of the employee journey.
Supporting our Senior Talent & People Partner, who manages our employees’ first 3 months at Founders Pledge. You’ll help to set new employees up for success by handling contracts, HR and technical onboarding, and making our new joiners feel a part of the team, no matter where in the US they’re based.
Facilities management and ad-hoc basic IT support. You’ll make sure that our office meets employee needs, health and safety requirements, and aligns with our values. You'll also help colleagues with basic IT requests, e.g. resetting passwords, troubleshooting or dealing with broken hardware.

ABOUT YOU

Overall, we’re looking for someone with a genuine passion and experience in bringing exceptional talent into a company, helping others do their best work and building systems in which employees can thrive. You’ll be excited to join a small, international People team (as the stand-alone team member in the US) and to work on a varied workload across HR admin BAU, hands-on talent acquisition and people projects. Our international people processes are well-developed, so you’ll be keen to pick them up and streamline where appropriate.

We’re open to candidates from a variety of backgrounds, but you’re likely to have:

Generalist HR experience in a stand-alone role or small team - you might have worked in tech startups or scaleups before (nonprofit experience not essential).
Talent acquisition experience - you've managed end-to-end candidate lifecycles.
An infectious, positive personality with high emotional intelligence and maturity.
Strong knowledge of and the ability to apply US employment law.
Experience in employee relations and providing pastoral care. You can handle ER, recognise patterns and escalate when necessary.
Excellent written and verbal communication with an ability to adapt communication styles depending on audience and required outcome, and strong attention to detail.
Comfort with spreadsheets (nice to have).
A design eye - you can present information in an engaging way, ensuring consistency, for example with employee handbooks (nice to have).

Salary: $110k-$120k (depending on experience)

Location: San Francisco - you’ll need to be in the office, currently at 600 California St., 2 or 3 days per week.
