The best memes from winter storm Stella

As snow and sleet pelt the Northeast on Tuesday, many Northerners are stuck indoors.

Although the storm was downgraded from a blizzard in New York City, parts of New York and Pennsylvania are expecting up to 30 inches of snow. And Providence and Boston are still expecting up to a foot of snow. Brrrr.

What to do with all this free time indoors? Cook up a delicious four-course meal, clean one’s fridge, or spend time with one’s loved ones?

Nay, I say.

It’s time to meme.

This dog, for instance, captures the struggle of anyone who still had to commute to work today.

That moment when this pup surrenders control and just goes sliding paws first down the mountain? That was me ducking and weaving to my coffee shop this morning.

This meme goes high-brow with a literary allusion to Stella from “A Streetcar Named Desire.”

Marlon Brando clutching his head and yelling “Stellaaaaaa” was me when the freezing rain soaked my socks.

This is not a real safety advisory from the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, but it should be.

For those of you who are zipping up today and wearing your down jackets as armor, this meme salutes you.

Meme commentary on the unpredictability of weather predictions.

Now this is a weather forecast I can get behind.

I too would like a National Weather Service announcement that approximates how many books I’ll need.

And finally, this is evergreen satire from The Onion that every New Yorker can pull up, regardless of what levels of precipitation you’re facing.

Instead of giving chipper winter weather advisories, the Onion’s satirical Mayor de Blasio of New York is giving us Act III Shakespeare monologues: “The furious hoarfrost bearing down upon us knows neither mercy nor reason, and all within the five boroughs will perish, cowering in their brittle dwellings.”

So go forth today: build your blanket forts and brew your tea while working from home. Do not fear: brave meme warriors will soldier on in this tempest.
