Amy Chernoff was good at her job. As a marketing and advertising executive, she made it her business to help the companies for which she worked acquire new customers and market their brands.
But when her employer went bankrupt and she lost her job in 2009, she discovered she wasn’t very good at acquiring new jobs and marketing her own brand. “Writing resumes was not one of my core competencies,” she said.
Chernoff needed a resume that would market her in the right way and match her to a position that fit her experience. John, a certified professional resume writer who works with Ladders, helped her write a new resume that would advertise her skills and experience.

“There really is no comparison to my old resume,” she said. “I am embarrassed to show it to anybody… It is night and day.”

The results speak for themselves, Chernoff said.

“I immediately started getting calls from HR folks to schedule interviews and that’s the difference,” she said. “You can spend months and months and months sending out your resume hoping to catch somebody’s attention with all the hundreds of thousands of other people that are applying for those positions… Within that week I had interviews scheduled.”

Chernoff landed a job at Adorn Brides, a jewelry-rental company, where she is the vice president of marketing and advertising.

“It’s fabulous. I’m having so much fun,” she said of the new job. “Not having the worry or anxiety about looking for work in these tough times. I was thrilled to find a position that I am well matched to and my resume helped me do that.”
