Medical professionals are dedicated to the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of illness or disease. The medical doctor or primary care physician is usually top of mind where medicine is concerned. Of course, many healthcare specialties within healthcare science exist, including surgeon, clinical cytogeneticist, clinical engineer, palliative care physician, and many more who play critical roles. Qualifications for a career in medicine depend heavily on the particular discipline chosen and include bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees. Relevant certifications are important; and state licenses are mandatory for practice.
