Position Summary:

As the WNBA looks to build its next generation of fans, it's looking to expand its storytelling beyond the court. We're looking for a Content Development Manager who understands and lives at the intersection of pop culture and sport and has a strong vision for how the WNBA can best tap into this. Specifically, the Manager will oversee the development and execution of the WNBA's year-round digital content strategy, working closely with teams to identify on- and off-court stories to follow, coordinating in-game coverage across all social channels, and introducing new content ideas for experimentation. This role will work closely with the Head of Marketing, Brand Manager, and Creative Director to ensure brand consistency and creativity across all channels.

Major Responsibility:

  • Develop and oversee execution of the year-round content plan for WNBA's social (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat) and digital (WNBA.com, WNBA app, YouTube) platforms
  • Ensure an appropriate mix of sport and pop culture elements
  • Oversee and manage quality control for coordinator and/or freelancers in execution/posting of content
  • Coordinate with Creative and Brand teams in the development of assets, for on-brand and timely delivery
  • Provide weekly/monthly reports, including insights, optimizations, and changes for future execution
  • Share and use insights for product roadmap development and optimization
  • Collaborate with teams to support team content calendars and creative development
  • Collaborate with sponsorship team to execute against current contracts, bring new partnership ideas to light and/or pursue new, innovative partnership activations
  • Oversee on-site execution and/or in-game coverage, managing freelancers and coordinating with broadcast, PR and production teams

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • 5-8Years of experience in content strategy for a consumer brand and/or digital media agency
  • Knowledge of content distribution best practices (including proper mediums and cadence) and experience designing content calendars
  • Knowledge of pop culture and basketball
  • Knowledge of WNBA is not required but the ability to get up-to-speed extremely quickly is
  • A strong, modern editorial eye to identify topics of interest and bring new ideas to the table
  • Passion for the latest trends in social media, including content, channels, and technologies
  • Excellent writing, editing, proofreading, time-management, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work across multi-functional groups and influence others to meet deadlines
  • Curiosity, quirkiness, confidence, and a sense of humor. It's sports!
