Job Purpose

The Wireless Engineer position is an opportunity for a smart, hardworking individual to engage in all network aspects of a leading edge platform for the wireless business within the ICE. The Wireless Engineer will be a key member of a small, high performing, team responsible for the development of applications and related systems to ensure accurate, reliable, and most importantly low-latency, transmission of content linking key trading centers.

The Engineer will employ advanced technical skills and knowledge, supported by strong communication skills to design and develop mission critical financial data handling systems in a low-latency context.

Ideal candidates will bring strong wireless / RF technical expertise combined with experience working in low-latency, networking, and capital markets environments.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver specialized wireless trading networks with lowest possible latency
  • Design, coordinate, and implement improvements to the design and performance of the low latency microwave and millimeter networks for electronic and trading applications
  • Assist with operation, maintenance and performance of mixed vendor wireless trading network infrastructure
  • Assist ICE staff with problem solving and escalation procedures
  • Understand and follow operational policies/procedures and promote adherence to same
  • Provide technical knowledge needed to ensure safe, effective, and efficient changes to the network infrastructure
  • Assist with development of policies and procedures for maintaining network infrastructure
  • Collaborate and work closely with Software and network engineers
  • Provide consultation (trouble-shooting, designing, on-boarding, risk mitigation, operational improvement) for areas of domain strength
  • Participation in 24/7 on-call rotation if needed

Knowledge and Experience

  • Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering or a related field
  • Minimum one year of experience designing and modelling point to point low latency microwave and millimeter network routes for financial applications
  • Advanced knowledge of low latency wireless radios,(Aviat, Cielo, Eband etc) IDU/ODU/repeater transmission architecture and QAM vs availability tuning trade-offs
  • Knowledge and experience in analyzing link and network performance data
  • Ideal candidate has worked with and deployed field support for real time outage responses and preventative maintenance
  • Frequency coordination and spectrum licensing knowledge and interference issues
  • Experience liaising with regulators and relevant third parties to resolve interference issues and timely completion of projects
  • Experience with analyzing Spectrum Analyzer reports for interference issues
  • Experience working on financial and HFT RF networks
  • Experience with networking protocols, sniffers preferred
  • Excellent verbal, writing and documentation skills

Beneficial Skills and Experience

  • Experience working with hosted IT infrastructure environments (e.g. co-located servers and networking infrastructure)
  • Experience with Cisco, Juniper, or Arista networking equipment
  • Experience in environments using microwave and/or millimeter wave wireless networking
  • Experience in capital markets or related sectors (e.g. trading technology vendors)
  • Familiarity or experience with securities trading, including:
    • Equities, derivatives, FX, and fixed income trading
    • Market participants, exchanges, and alternative trading systems
    • Financial markets and participants in North America or globally
    • Market data and order entry protocols
    • Electronic and algorithmic trading technologies and trading strategies
