SUMMARY OF DUTIES: This position is responsible for ensuring the Hancock Farmland Services (HFS) water strategy is implemented within FMS California in a manner that optimizes client property strategy for this resource; implementing the approved water systems; providing analysis of total return on investment versus least cost scenario for potential water system changes; and maintaining good relationships with local agencies, water boards, state regulators, and other industry partners. The position reports to the COO Western Permanent Crops, Hancock Farmland Services (HFS) and will work closely with the Sr. Vice President of FMS California, as well as several Area and Regional Manages in California.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

1. Develop relationships with water managers and board members of key Water Districts.

2. Actively acquire additional surface water sources for client properties.

3. Actively participate with Water Districts by attending board meetings, technical advisory meetings, and public outreach meetings.

4. Participate in development of HFS objectives in groundwater subbasins in which HFS-managed properties are located.

5. Monitor/attend/coordinate with ranch managers to cover meetings and develop summary of issues for each Groundwater Sustainability Agency (GS)/Groundwater Sustainability Plan (GSP).

6. Participate in GSP development in HFS-priority subbasins to ensure HFS objectives are addressed to the fullest extent practicable.

7. Actively participate on select Water District boards, as appropriate.

8. Work with consultants to develop and implement water strategies and budgets in priority sub-basins.

9. Closely work with the farm management team and acquisitions team to model new properties for water sustainability under California’s Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA).

10. Work with ranch managers to develop plans for rotational fallowing, recharge areas, and/or wildlife habitat expansion to meet HNRG sustainability goals.

11. Help design a system to better collect and report water-related data and prepare action items based on that information. Work with ranch mangers to identify and utilize new technology to improve energy and water efficiency.

12. Develop and organize water-related grower outreach programs.

13. Develop beneficial relationships with Resource Conservation Districts, non-government conservation groups and government agencies

14. Review and coordinate policies and procedures concerning the application and use of water.

15. Prepare and attend monthly water management meeting with senior staff.

16. Attend and represent Hancock at water-related functions.

17. Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

? Minimum Bachelor’s Degree (B.S.) in agricultural sciences, environmental management, or related field from an accredited educational institution

? Minimum 3 years directly related experience with job(s) demonstrating experience in working with water development projects or farmland management

? Proven ability to work with all types of individuals both internal and external to the organization and function well in team settings

? Must have demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to apply those skills to contentious issues

? Demonstrated strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects and conflicting priorities

? Strong computer skills

? Must be able to work well across departments within a matrixed organization

? Must possess valid driver’s license and be insurable with company’s commercial carrier

? Must own or lease a vehicle that meets Company criteria for Company reimbursement program

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

? Frequent sitting, standing, and walking, plus occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds

? Must be able to travel by air and vehicle, and frequently drive long distances

? View and type on computer screens for long periods

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Performing the essential functions of this job may require the incumbent to work with and/or around hazardous materials, perform lifting and/or bending, or be exposed to unpleasant or hazardous conditions or substances in the field including heat, exhaust or chemicals
