Role Overview

You will serve as a key member of the Avantas executive leadership team to develop and drive integrated delivery methods, maximize current and near-term business opportunities and prepare Avantas Operations for future success by pioneering and perfecting innovative operational strategies.

Reporting to the President, you will oversee several teams totaling about 45 professionals:

  • A Senior Director leading strategic account management, with strategic Account Managers responsible for delighting existing clients as well as expansion and upselling.
  • A Senior Director leading account management, support for Smart Square® (our SaaS healthcare staffing software) and project/implementation management.
  • A Senior Director leading consulting, client education and software release management.
  • A Manager leading our 24 x 7 staffing command center serving as a client resource.

Vital responsibilities for this strategic role will be the design, trial and execution of best practice workforce optimization models to lead the industry and continuously improve key metrics, including internal financial margins, client expansion, adoption and satisfaction. This will include:

  • Re-envisioning and optimizing the client experience, from engagement to post-go-live support
  • Developing a client maturity model to ensure we meet each unique client where they are and develop solutions tailored to their specific needs.
  • Playing a key role in developing the 5-year strategic roadmap, and creating and implementing plans to achieve goals.
  • And more.

You'll also have tactical responsibilities, such as going on client visits, assisting with contract renewals, helping build infrastructure, etc.

Role Specifics

In addition to the responsibilities described above, as Vice President, Strategic Operations, you will:

  • Design, trial and execute best practice workforce operational strategies for use within Avantas operations.
  • Calculate return on investment (ROI) assessments utilizing financial models and accurate costing in order to set appropriate pricing and ensure profitability.
  • Scale and package workforce operational strategies to monetize for the broader marketplace outside Avantas 24 x 7 customer base.
  • Achieve quarterly and annual client satisfaction targets.
  • Develop and execute program of continuous customer service improvement.
  • Structure detailed strategic plans for building and sustaining business relationships with key stakeholders and C-level executives within client population.
  • Develop and deliver presentations aligned with Avantas' and AMN's style and branding guidelines to communicate valued solutions to client contacts and decision makers (C-Suite, operational leaders, etc.) to create shared vision.
  • Participate in key industry associations and trade organizations, where appropriate.
  • Foster effective partnerships with all AMN colleagues in the collaboration on new product development and strategy.
  • Recruit, train and mentor high functioning team. Identify, foster and promote exceptional talent.
  • Design, track, review and report annual budget and other financial accountability metrics.

The Ideal Candidate

To be a good fit for the VP, Strategic Operations opportunity, you will have:

  • A bachelor's degree; an MBA is preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in strategic operations.
  • A demonstrated ability to drive measurable improvements at a fast pace.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, including the ability to influence and motivate senior executives.
  • The ability to negotiate contracts based on an understanding of pricing dynamics.
  • Experience in healthcare, staffing, workforce management and/or managed services would be helpful, but is not required.
  • Strong self-motivation and initiative.
  • The ability to learn quickly.
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills.

You also will need to be willing and able to travel 20% to 30% of the time, and you will help determine the extent of your travel.


Success Factors

As you would expect, you'll need to be proactive about establishing your credibility on your team and with leaders in the business areas your team supports. At the same time, you'll will find your direct reports open to a new leader who can provide firm but fair guidance. We'll look to you to help them focus on what is best for clients and to consider cross-functional dynamics when developing solutions. In fact, that is a key objective across strategic operations: Maintaining process discipline while keeping the client front-and-center.

People are often surprised by the pace at which we operate. For example, while our client satisfaction ratings are strong, we'll look to see marked improvement within six months. To do so, you'll need to drive improvements in all operations areas, not just one or two. That will require you to gain a solid understanding of the interdependencies among the areas.
