Position Description

This position serves as the business owner responsible for leading the cross functional team efforts for STARS / HEDIS Optimization.  This person will identify opportunities for next best actions to close health care gaps, improve quality of care and lower costs.  The candidate will apply expertise in data preparation and statistics to investigate complex problems in various health care domains across several problem spaces. This position will drive the build out of the data science practice while delivering results on high-impact projects leveraging big data analytics.  This person will need to perform in a fast-paced environment, will have an operational mindset with attention to detail, and will focus on identifying value to challenging business problems.  This position will be advocating the power of data science concepts and working with cross-functional teams to create actionable insight across core business lines.  This position requires someone with strong business acumen, coupled with the ability to communicate findings to both business and IT leaders in a way that can influence how the organization approaches a business challenge.  It is critical to have exceptional communication skills and the ability to make complex concepts simple and easy to understand. This candidate will utilize techniques from many fields including mathematics, statistics, data mining, visualization, and predictive analytics.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in field of Business or Healthcare

  • Clinical and/or Health Education experience/background
  • Program or department operations and program development and execution

  • 5+ years Healthcare/Health Planexperience
  • 5+ years of experience with demonstrated functional knowledge, process improvement initiatives, and organizational behavior

  • 5+ years of Statistical analysis, quantitative analytics, and/or forecasting/predicting analytics

  • Experience using data mining approaches to develop innovative ways to look at problems

  • Experience with big data, Hadoop, Python, SQL, etc
  • Experience with multivariate testing and optimizing algorithms

  • Experience with business intelligence tools such as Tableau

  • Experience in managing teams and developing employees

  • Ability to discover insights and identifies opportunities through the use of statistical, algorithmic mining and visualization techniques

  • Well-versed in analytics application design principles, frameworks and technologies

  • Knowledge in predictive modeling methods and data mining techniques

  • Experience developing applications using healthcare data

  • Strong business, problem solving skills and programming knowledge to quickly cycle hypotheses through discovery

  • Experience working closely with clients, clinicians, data stewards, and other business and technology leaders

  • Demonstrated ability to assist with focusing activities toward a strategic direction and achieve targets
  • Strong data management, process and project management skills
  • Problem solver, demonstrated communication skills and comfortable working in multi-disciplinary teams

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with internal and external business partners and employees
  • Strong influencing and negotiation skills
  • Strong independent decision maker

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience with SAS, SPSS, R, and/or STATA (any combination)

  • Experience in program evaluation and research
